Designed to blend effortlessly into its landscape, Nayara Alto Atacama is a magnificent desert retreat. The hotel's architecture incorporates the ancient building styles of the Altiplano natives, with architectural lines that echo the surrounding hills, and colors and textures that reflect nearby rocks and soil. Interiors feature a quiet luxury and authentic sense of place. The surrounding gardens are a microcosm of the desert, created with native materials and seeds, and planted entirely by hand. Moved with humble respect for nature and the local culture, we are proud to promote this piece of the world that has been their home for thousands of years and committed to protect their heritage. Alto Atacama is a multiple award winning hotel, a recognized luxury lodge, a stunning location… More than that, a place high up, closer to the stars.

We stayed 4 nights at Nayara on B&B package and did 5 full days of private excursions. I highly recommend the property to anyone visiting Atacama and wish to have a authentic experience without scarifying high end services. Activities: The private excursions organized by Franz and led by our fantastic guide David were the highlight of our stay. Both Franz and David are very knowledgeable and accommodating, they go the extra mile the deliver a bespoke experience. David is probably the best tour guide we have had after travelling in many countries. Spa: The spa is relatively small however there are plenty of pools outdoor, plus a heated jacuzzi that can be booked in advance. We tried the deep tissue massage which was very good! F&B: Standards are high for both lunch and diner, we didn't get bored after 4 days. Special thanks to Franz and David for the amazing experience, we look forward to returning next time.

What a great hotel. Impeccable service. Stayed 4 nights and booked the all-inclusive package. In contrast to a previous reviewer, we did not see any elderly at breakfast or during the excursions - so I guess they had bad luck in the pre-season. Most guests were between 30-50 years of age. If I were to highlight one aspect of Nayara, it is the restaurant. The chef knows how to cook! The soups are next level, especially a honeydew gazpacho with an out-of-this-world balance between acidity and sweetness. Maybe the protein portions at lunch were too large - but most people will not complain about that. 3-course lunch and 3-course dinner served every day - on full day excursions, tasty lunch (or breakfast) is served on site. Had our breakfast with scrambled eggs at 4.355 mtrs of elevation on one of the tours! Staff is very accomodating in every aspect. The excursions (we did 6) were great - going home with a lot of impressions in colorful pastel colors. Excursions are really in small groups (2-6 people) and the guides are locals and knowledgeable. The hotel seems to combine Atacamenian atmosphere (employing locals with many stories about local traditions) with a 5-star experience. Rooms were clean and spacey. Serviced twice a day. 7 small pools to leasure. Did not visit the spa. Did not miss a bigger pool or a gym - it would not fit in the hotel’s atmosphere, carefully trying to blend in with the terracotta salt range mountains that surround the hotel. Absolutely recommended.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights 17/11-22/11 . The good: The setting is stunning . The complimentary transfers were very welcome and driver Jaqueim very friendly . The hotel itself is a beautiful resort . It was strange at first as all the other hotel guests seemed much much older 60+ so coming down for breakfast had a “care home vibe” which took us aback as we were a good few decades younger than all the other guests but we went with it and the breakfasts were enjoyable and the other guests lovely. Similarly the staff were very kind and helpful . The breakfast had a good variety of buffet and a la carte eggs like omelettes and eggs Benedict’s etc which were delicious. Rosario the guest relations manager , was around to greet people and ensure they were being looked after well by the team . The spa - it needs to be booked for an hour slot but get private use of the sauna and steam rooms The food and drink is excellent in the main restaurant with the menu changing daily. The standard is high , it is like a gastro pub/fine dining . There was a BBQ on Tuesdays which was also delicious albeit quite windy . We stayed on a B&B basis as we tended not to have lunch rather have a hearty breakfast . And the dinners were good value and great quality and cheaper than an equivalent fine dining restaurant in London so we were happy to pay for meals separately. There is a shuttle to the San Pedro town which has some restaurants too but felt food much better in hotel and well priced for the quality which was excellent. The San Pedro town has a church but seemed full of touristy orientated shops The tours - the tours were excellent . We would have liked some “more adventurous” tours with more walking but I guess as the demographic seems to be “older generation” travellers there was less walking. We did however do all their “adventure trips” and really enjoyed them - the vlama/devils throat, juana trek and cactus hike were the highlights - special shout to the guide Catalina who was very knowledgeable and helped us learn about all the wild animals we encountered on the tours - the different types of flamingoes, vicunias , and ostriches . The tours are very well organised and the guide we had Catalina was truly an asset to the hotel. Big thanks to her! Lovely bar area - the bar area and food is really nice and there is a fire which was pleasant to sit on the cooler evenings The hotel provides each guest with a metal water flask which is a nice touch . There is also a station in reception where can refill water bottles and take nuts and sweets for the trips to take in backpack which was a good idea Star gazing - the sky is so clear in the desert and the 1hr star gazing guide at the hotels observation deck was a very informative experience seeing the rings of Saturn so clearly and shooting stars etc Things to be aware of/what could be improved: - maybe the resort is catered for the older demographics but it is a pity a hotel of this class does not have a Gym? - the rooms are lovely but are quite basic and tired in places such as the furniture and cushions when considering the price in comparison to other hotels have stayed in around the world. I guess being in the desert is the real showcase and is what are paying for here . - the heated pools are very small and not suitable for swimming . - the tv in room all the channels appeared to be dubbed into Spanish However all in all this is a fantastic place to base self when exploring the sights of the incredible atacama desert. It is a very expensive treat to stay here but the experience of the desert is life changing so worth it as a once in a lifetime experience . Thanks to all at the hotel !!

There are plenty of positive comments here already. Believe the hype. Great comfort, super setting, excellent food, service always with a smile....in a very remote place indeed. Maximise all excursions as this place is unbelievable (beats Oman, Morocco, Jordan, Arizona, Utah etc). Really hope to return as we hugely enjoyed it. Shout out to Rosario who makes everything look easy and genuinely cares. Bravissimi.
