When it comes to the art of escape, there are few places better than Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe. Set in the mystical foothills of New Mexico's Sangre de Cristo, 65 casita guest rooms and suites welcome you to a place as enchanting as its surroundings. The hotel occupies its own 57 acres of land, creating a true oasis that is still within easy reach of Santa Fe's downtown attractions, shopping and restaurants. A stylish and modern aesthetic defines the accommodations - none of which is less than 630 square feet in size - and each room features its own indoor fireplace and private terrace. His & her closets and original artwork add the kind of thoughtful touches you would expect from a hotel of this caliber, and yet the incredibly inviting atmosphere will make you feel as relaxed as if you were in your own home. Attentive service at Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe is readily available, including 24-hour in-room dining, laundry and dry cleaning, overnight shoeshine, and 24-hour concierge. From the moment you arrive, every moment here is something spectacular.

Be advised. There is currently a large scale expansion project going on. The noise and pounding is unbearable and permeates throughout the entire building. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is NOT the place. Also the service level is about the same as the Holiday Inn, in other words, it is terrible. It takes 10 requests to get some ice sent to your room. This is the absolute WORST Four Seasons I have ever stayed at. Maybe the last.

We stayed for a glorious four nights last month, loved it and can't wait to return. The casitas are lovely, comfortable and spacious, and the whole property feels like it fits in perfectly in the desert setting, as Four Seasons often do. We had breakfast at Terra every morning and food and service were always excellent, with a special mention for Estrella for providing wonderful and warm service to start our day. The food was also fantastic, and I am still dreaming of those blue corn pancakes. We had a wonderful and quiet dinner there one evening as well, where food wine and service again were exceptional. We used the hotel shuttle just about every day to drive us into town near the plaza or Canyon Road, and enjoyed chatting with Elijah and the rest of the drivers. We visited the spa every afternoon and loved the private courtyard sauna and hot tub, it was a great way to wind down before dinner; to sit in the courtyard under the sun and listen to the birds chirping. Overall, we can't say enough good things about it and look forward to coming back.

Overall, it is what one comes to expect with a Four Seasons. The property, the room and staff all met or exceeded expectations. However, we did have a couple of minor issues. One with the front desk not following through to notify the shuttle driver of where to pick us up, resulting in wasted time for both him and us. Secondly, the restaurant was a bit hit and miss on both food and service. But, we would definitely return.

Four Seasons Encantado is the perfect place to unwind, breath deep and connect to this special New Mexican land. We have much history with this property - from the 1980s when we often visited the Rancho Encantado hosted by owner Betty Egan to the current management under the Four Seasons. Returning always ignites all our great memories. This property is our favorite place to stay in Santa Fe area as we are close enough to go into town if we wish - a beautiful 10 minute drive on Bishops Lodge Road - or just happy to stay in Tesuque away from all the congestion of downtown and take in the quiet and endless expansive views while having a most comfortable and well appointed room. The rooms were recently refreshed. The Auberge reopened the property in 2008 and whoever redesigned the layout of the resort unfortunately really missed as the central focus from most rooms are of the parking areas. However the vegetation has grown up nicely and certainly gives more privacy and less parking lot views from many rooms. Sadly many rooms still lack privacy. We were shown our assigned room, an upstairs unit, and even though they said a two category upgrade we were unhappy the room deck on which we spend a lot of time. We looked out right onto a neighboring deck, parking spaces and the spa building across a street. We splurged and upgraded to an Encantado Suite and so happy we did. The spacious suite sits on the highest spot on the property and so gifted the best room views with incredible sunsets. There is a coyote fence at the end of the outdoor space which obstructs most of the lower building below. It would spectacular if they added a plunge pool. Enjoying morning coffee on the nicely appointed outside area with the refreshing New Mexican air and distant spreckled mountain views was the perfect way to start each day. We enjoyed walks on and beyond the property and relaxing by the pool. We ate breakfasts here each morning and very good. We especially enjoyed the New Mexican offerings like the chilaquiles. Pool service was excellent. Pool side snack of guacamole, salsa and chips very good. Sheldon, the bartender was happy to make our margaritas to our request. Drinks and service in the bar and fire pit very professional and friendly. We ate no dinners at Terra as I am a vegetarian and the menu quite meat driven. We would have liked to dine here as a great atmosphere. I wish they offered a few vegetarian New Mexican offerings like a well made cheese enchilada with table side guacamole and pintos. I would happily pay a premium for such an entree and the handsome dining room. We ventured to town for all dinners. The shuttle service they provide to downtown is a great service. In closing we so enjoyed this property for its sense of space and beauty. We look forward to returning.
