Oceana Beach Club Hotel

This hotel regularly sells for over $1k. I'm genuinely perplexed at so many glowing reviews. The structure is a converted motel or old apartment building, while the interior has been almost completely updated, it still has a motel feel. The walls are paper thin, the floors squeak, and the bathroom door takes a lot of effort to open and close. I received a pre-arrival email asking about preferences. We actually exchanged 2 or 3 emails where I requested a room not on the ground floor. The associate also mentioned a suite upgrade (I'm a Diamond member). However upon arrival, I was told that the property is full, not only no upgrade, we got the smallest room (judging from the diagram) on the ground floor with a view of a wall. While the room is nicely decorated, the bed linen is not premium at all. The bathroom counter space is almost non-existent. The room is also oddly shaped, with a large TV pushed in a corner, and a desk pushed in a different corner. Single tiny window looking out to a wall (the other side of the wall is a dingy apartment building). For a high-end hotel carrying a premium price, one would expect pretty good service. In fact the level of service is no different from a no-frill brand such as Hampton Inn. Aside from the small pool, there are basically no amenities. No turndown service at night. There is not even a coffee maker in the room. We made a request for additional water bottles that got ignored. Had to call a 2nd time. Overall it was a disappointing stay. The location is good for our purpose. It takes 20 minutes to walk to Santa Monica pier. Parking across the street is easy and free after 6pm.

Went with friends for a little get away. It was a cute property with a nice location. Sitting in the courtyard for a delicious breakfast was a great way to start the day. The service was excellent- friendly and attentive. Especially everyone working there on March 27.

Arrived at the hotel for a short stay checking out tomorrow. This hotel has exceeded my expectations thus far. The rooms are amazing, the hotel is beautiful, the location is perfect for my family, and everyone on the staff has been extremely courteous. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be back - Shantan

We arrived in the hope of feeling a connection with Stan Laurel, who lived here until his death in 1965. Lenny was absolutely brilliant, even taking us to see inside Stans room, he took photos for us and couldn't have been more accommodating, thank you Lenny. The now beautiful hotel was very welcoming and made our short 30 minute visit so memorable. Many thanks

I cannot recommend this beautiful hotel enough! We recently stayed at the hotel. Our room was breathtaking and the whole hotel is absolutely beautiful. Plus you can’t beat the location! But what made our trip truly special with the exceptional staff at the hotel. We only stayed for one night because I had to head to downtown LA for business. When we were checking out, I asked the front desk staff if they had any recommendations for restaurants and things to do in downtown LA. Akeem and another gentleman working the front desk gave us some exceptional restaurant suggestions and a great list of things to do. They not only made our stay in Santa Monica outstanding, but they also made our stay in downtown LA truly special! We had such an amazing time that we have changed our vacation plans in May. Instead of heading to a different city and hotel, we are heading back to Santa Monica to enjoy the Oceana for a longer stay this time. We can’t wait to check out the cute bikes that you can get for day trips!
