Santa Monica Proper Hotel

I cannot say enough fabulous things about our recent stay at the proper . The hotel is beautiful, the staff is above and beyond anything we've ever experienced here or out of country. It was amazing to me , to experience this level of excellence. It makes me want to return soon.! I have stayed in Santa Monica several times at three or four different hotels over the past 10 years and this property takes the cake. The room was insanely comfortable with all the amenities you could hope for, we had such good meals. We didn't even leave the property for 3 Days . The Fitness Center also was a highlight with a huge variety of equipment and immaculate. The best part though was the incredible staff and that goes from Reception to any server we encountered In the restaurant, and really anyone we came across that worked for the hotel. I'm not someone who usually stopped to write reviews, but I thought I had to.!

There Proper is our go-to home away from home, in Santa Monica. The entire staff is super-friendly, anticipate our needs, and look to ensure that we have the optimal experience. The room, beds, and amenities are comfortable and top-notch. The roof-top restaurant is a must, as is the first floor - where breakfasts are superb. Do not miss a drink at the bar with Dave the bartender, whose knowledge of life in LA and Santa Monica is engaging and informative. We have been going to the Proper for almost five years now, and it is the standard by which I judge other hotels.

I avoid the new trendy hotels and typically book Ritz or Waldorf or Four Seasons. However our friends wanted to stay at the Santa Monica Proper Hotel because Kelly Wearstler designed the hotel. So we decided to give it a try. My wife and I loved the design of the hotel – hats off to Kelly – but did not expect excellent service – as good as a typical Ritz Carlton’s or St Regis’ The entire hotel (lobby, restaurants, rooftop, gym and the rooms) was cool and chic. This is where the guests are fashionable, the locals who visit the rooftop are trendy and staff is friendly and always wantto please. We loved our room and admired the furnishings throughout the hotel. The Calabra rooftop restaurant and bar had a great vibe, a great view and had excellent food and drinks. The tamarindo margarita was perfect - but so was all of the other drinks...especially the Washed Ashore. The food was also excellent at Palma for both dinner and breakfast. The gym was also well designed and had lots of equipment including a reformer. They also do lots of little extras -- delicious homemade granola bars in the gym, energy drinks and energy drink packets in the room and gym and tasty homemade muffins with the morning coffee service in the room off of the lobby. It’s not often I am surprised and delighted with a hotel. I give this hotel top marks all the way through. The location is excellent. The check in was seamless and friendly. The decor is immediately warm and inviting but also calming. It’s modern but comfortable. I loved the neutral colors throughout. Staff were amazing - friendly, accommodating and kind. This was throughout - the front desk, the room service, the engineering staff, housekeeping and restaurant staff. They have this great system where you can contact them on WhatsApp and I felt so taken care of and heard. This matters a lot when one is dealing with time zones and extensive travel. I had the best Chicken Noodle Soup for dinner. Honestly, I cannot wait to bring my family back for a fun trip. Rare to have a hotel which is both business and can imagine a really fun holiday hotel as well.

Honestly cannot say nice enough words about this hotel from start to finish its purify star and I found myself saying myself at one point wow this is actually a proper hotel which is ironic given the name! Special Shelter to wonderful staff- Felipe- Irene- Kris- Hayden etc all of whom were wonderful
