Embracing a legacy of rich history dating back to the 15th century, Hodelpa Nicolas de Ovando Hotel is located on the first paved road of the New World, Calle Las Damas, in the heart of Santo Domingo’s historic Zona Colonial, designated a UNESCO Heritage Site. Comprising three stone houses and courtyards built in 1502, the historic building was the very first to be built on the country’s colonial land and the home of the town’s founder and first Spanish governor of the Americas, Nicolas de Ovando, and his companion Christopher Columbus.

Beautiful spot, great location in very safe location. Beds are very comfortable. Pool is great to relax by. Has parking if you come by car. Rooms in older part are very beautiful but lighting is atmospheric, a little problematic if you want to read a book not on tablet, but there are many outdoor courtyards to sit in with good light. Drinking water a little less readily available than US audience is used to; had to keep asking for more

The pillows were very fluffy, the service was very kind. The hotel is spacious, with a gym, pool and other amenities. Weather this time of year was ideal. I do think there is room for improvement at times for the speed of service. There is a lot to discover and learn in the local area. From enjoying restaurants and night life to day tours and church visits, there is always something to do here.

Spent 4 nights here and were very happy. The location is great, safe and good for walking, historic sights, and people watching. Breakfast was OK, a little surprised at how limited in English the staff was. Room was comfortable and spacious.

Great architecture… laid back vibe…very central location in Cuidad Colonial. You get the feeling of times gone by……………..We have returned various times and hopefully we will continue to return as we explore this country where we are supporting a small school in Las Galeras , Samana
