Reviews for The DeSoto

Perfect Hotel with restaurant inside and all around the streets.

Hotel location is excellent and very nice. I brought my wife here for her birthday in Savannah. Everyone here is very friendly and offer you the best service. Hotel has a beautiful restaurant and outdoor sitting area overlooking Liberty st. There were several other restaurants around the hotel and walking at night with my wife allong Bull st through several nice squares was simply great. Food in the hotel restaurant was top notch 👌 😋 Ms Becky in the lobby was so helpful in getting us picked up by shuttle to our tour bus departure spot. She can help you with creating a plan for places to visit.

The good and the ugly

This was a decent conference hotel. The best part about this hotel was the service from the employees. Check-in and check-out were smooth and pleasant. The rooms were decent, as was the ambiance generally. Where this place really falls down is the gym. If you aren't looking to work out, this place lives up to snuff. If you DO want to work out, please beware. The only recumbent bike and one of two treadmills were on the fritz (and we tried to do many things to get them to work--no dice). The second, seemingly working treadmill has a belt that slips, which nearly threw me off several times. I made it about .3 miles before I decided I wanted to live. The only bench in the gym lacked screws to secure the pad to the frame, which is pretty darn dangerous. There were missing weights, and no weight machines (although that might be a good thing, considering the neglect of the cardio machines). So, decent place, and well located if you want the basics and good service, but don't expect some of the luxury extras.

A HOTEL LACKING IN HOSPITALITY

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

As I promised to the General Manager, I want to highlight a very unpleasant Front Desk encounter. While the hotel was average in almost every respect, Kathy at the Front Desk provided a unique experience that is worth relating. We were a party of four adults staying in two, entry-level rooms. Our bill for four days was just over $3000, so this was not an inexpensive establishment. On our last day, our airport transfer was arriving at 12:30pm. So, I asked Kathy if we could stay in our rooms until noon, instead of the 11am check-out time. Without asking us which rooms we were in, nor even pretending to look at the computer screen, instantly, and very unsympathetically replied "No, the hotel is totally booked" She suggested we check our bags with the valets, and wait for 90 minutes in the lobby. How kind. I thanked her for her understanding, and we went to have our last $150 breakfast at the hotel. By 10am we headed back to our rooms to finish packing and meet the check-out deadline, only to find that our keys had been deactivated, and Housekeeping - which had never made up our rooms before 3:30 in the afternoon, and on one day not at all, waiting outside our door. I had to return to the Front Desk, but this time was waited on by the General Manager. She apologized for the deactivation, and wanted to know if we'd like to stay in our rooms until noon. I explained that we had already been told to clear out by Kathy, who was silently standing next to us. The Manager said she didn't know why we were told that, but offered a late check out again. I explained that everyone was rushing to meet the deadline, and it was too late. I did. however, let her know that we believed the key deactivation, as well as the uncharacteristically urgent need by Housekeeping to clean only our rooms, was orchestrated by Kathy to prove a point. So, our last 90 minutes at the Hotel were spent sitting on ottomans in the lobby, surrounded by our luggage looking like we were waiting for a bus. Good job, Kathy! Your petulant exercise in power will guaranteed we never return. And, while the Manager said she would discuss the issue with Kathy, one couldn't shake the feeling that this wouldn't be the first such "discussion". So much for Southern Hospitality.

Valet on point!

To start off, Charlie F in valet was AMAZING. Willing to help and was a kind and welcoming guy! The rest was alright, and then when leaving, Charlie was there again with a big smile and even loaded up the car for us! The man deserves a raise! Highly recommended!

Overall a very nice stay with one shortcoming

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Front desk staff were very nice, and the 1540 Room restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner. The room had a great view, and was clean if a little stark, and the bathroom had a funky smell which I think came from the water. The valet parking was way understaffed, but there were several events in the hotel that night plus the Andrea Bocelli concert in town so I'd cut them some slack. Still, I think they might have been better prepared, but ultimately we were served with no issue. The location is great, and we would stay there again.
