Staying at B & Bs is always a unique experience reflecting their own individuality and personality. It’s a long time, though, since we’ve stayed at one as individual and delightful as The Stephen Williams House. From the moment we were greeted by the owner, Doc, the epitome of a Southern gentleman, we knew we were in for something special. He made us feel at home and offered just the right amount of information and advice about things to do and places to see in Savannah, most of them within walking distance, because we were so well located in the city’s historic district. Every room of the house was decorated exquisitely with antiques – furniture, artwork, objets d’art, silverware and even a grand piano. It wasn’t just the antiques themselves, but the way that every one of them was perfectly placed, a task that Doc admitted delegating to a professional designer. The house had been extensively renovated to turn it into an immaculate B & B, providing modern ensuite bathrooms and spacious high-ceiling rooms with plenty of drawer and closet space, as well as electrical outlets and very good air conditioning throughout the house. For relaxing outside there was a lovely verandah with seating, small tables and some plants. Below was another seating area in a secluded, pretty garden with flowers, shrubs and a soothing fountain, all set against the archetypal Southern backdrop of a tree covered in Spanish Moss. Doc made a point of remembering every guest’s name and chatted with us as he poured coffee from a silver jug and his staff served us with a traditional Southern cooked breakfast. We would not hesitate to stay at The Stephen Williams House again, if we are ever able to revisit the lovely city of Savannah.

Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owner Dr. Albert Wall (Doc) who made me feel right at home. The B&B itself is a picturesque home tucked away in a corner of the Historic District. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful 100-year-old garden. We stayed on the garden level in a cozy room with everything we needed. The shower was great! One of the highlights of our visit was the delicious breakfast served each morning. Doc is not only a gracious host but also a talented chef using recipes that were very old & very southern! While serving breakfast he gave us recommendations for local attractions brief anecdotes on the history of the area. Everything is within walking distance which was great. We highly recommend this charming B&B for your next escape to Savannah.

We stayed at the Stephen Williams House for three nights. We should have stayed longer. It's really a B&B. Our host, Dr. Albert Wall, is a gracious person who not only serves you a breakfast, but tells you about the southern dish he has prepared for you. He doesn't sit at the table as you eat but he visits with you, offering suggestions for visiting Savannah, making you feel very welcome and delighting you with his southern charm. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed sitting out on the porch in the early morning or evening, overlooking the patio garden with a fountain. While it isn't the closest place to the busy downtown, it is with reasonable walking distance to everything and quieter. While walking to and from the Stephen Williams House you get to see and appreciate the historic homes and squares in the historic district. The house is beautifully decorated with antiques. This is not a place for children but a different experience than that found in one of the large hotels closer to the river. We didn't bring a car. We did a lot of walking and used Uber to get us to Bonaventure Cemetery and taxi to/from the airport.

Charming home, even more charming host. The rooms are beautiful and the host has decorated them tastefully. The breakfasts were delicious and he catered to our dietary needs. This hotel is in a great location and the free parking is a huge bonus. This was my third stay here and definitely not my last.

We loved our stay at the Stephen Williams house. We stayed in the James Troup Dent room on the second floor. It was large, clean and comfortable. The highlight of the stay here is the charming host, Doc. He is the quintessential Southern gentleman. It was a pleasure spending time with him and his breakfasts are wonderful! Its a pleasure to sit in the dining room every morning and hear Doc describe the history of the delicious menu of the day. The location of the inn is perfect. Its very centrally located and walking distance to most of the sights you you would want to see in Savannah.
