Awful Beds!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My initial impression of the hotel as I arrived was pretty good. All that credit goes to Kyle at the Front Desk. He is wonderful. I then proceeded to my room which upon opening the door I was hit with the most overpowering aroma of "Fabreze"? And I do mean potent. The kind that almost gives you an instant head ache. I returned to the desk and once again Kyle was fabulous in finding me an alternate room. He even took the time to come up to the room to ensure it was OK. It was. He then assisted me in moving my cases from the old room and had the same reaction when we opened the door. "it kind of hits you right in the face, doesn't it". His words. LOL The rooms are definitely small. OK for one person. Pretty well used space. The decor was a bit dated but still OK. Nice desk space which I appreciate and cannot be taken for granted these days. Room was clean. The reason for 2 stars is THE BEDS! The most important thing in a hotel guestroom and W failed miserably. Bed so old it required TWO mattress pads and what appears to have been a feather topper (also so old it offered no cushioning). Top that off with a lovely fold in the middle of the two mattress pads and there was little comfort to be found. There are many comments about the nightclub noise but even that did not disturb more than the poor bed quality. Keeping the window closed and the AC fan running non stop did provide enough white noise to drown that out. They should decide though if they are a hotel or a nightclub. The two really do not go hand in hand. Most hotels allow you to check your account on the TV screen before departing but I could not find that option so had called the FD before leaving to ensure there were no charges. Most hotels allow you to check your account on the TV screen before departing but I could not find that option so had called the FD before leaving to ensure there were no charges. After returning home I did notice a charge on my credit card which I called to inquire about. I dialed 5 for bill inquiries but just got a busy signal several times. So I dialed 0 as an alternate option. Once again, I was fortunate enough to have Kyle answer. He pulled my account up very quickly and explained it was a mini bar charge. I swear I had touched nothing anywhere near the mini bar or the $11 bottles of water. He has promised to have that removed from my account. He was and is certainly the one bright star. But if you want sleep, this might not be the place for you.

Does not take Apple Pay.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Will not take Apple Pay. Had wallet stollen. Stayed at least 1000 nights with Marriot. Am Marriot Ambassador Elite and had Apple Pay plus photo of card and a passport and they still would not let me stay there. Driver to the other hotel told me that it’s a huge party hotel with loud parties so they are always concerned about damage. Don’t have many business travelers.

Sexy hotel, one of my favorites

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Awesome hotel. I have stayed here several times and I always have a great experience. If you can, get one of the suites with a balcony. The views are amazing, and a great place to enjoy breakfast and a coffee in the morning. The two bars are awesome, and the vibe on the weekends is awesome. Very sexy. The staff here is amazing.

Not a good W and poor Titanium experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I love the W brand but was disappointed with this property. Boring, lame pool scene, and loud. Gym was good. Room service was good but ridiculously experience ($49 for eggs and coffee). They also don’t release most of their suites to Titanium customers for upgrades. Been Titanium for 8 years and never experienced that.

Unauthorized credit card charges at the bar

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Beware of credit card charges at the bar! My husband and I are locals and went to the Living Room bar at the W Scottsdale for a pre dinner drink. Upon ordering our first drink and providing a card to the bar tender, we received an alert from our bank that a $125 charge was put on our card. The bar tender claimed that she had not run our card. When we left, we paid our bill and received another alert for the amount of our bill. Great. 10 minutes later we received another alert on our phone that our card had been charged a third time. I reached out to the W the next day and was referred to the company that manages their bars and bar staff, Spellbound. I reached out to Spellbound and they said they would look into the issue and then never heard back.
