Hotel Andra represents all that is wrong with Accor’s Late Checkout Policies

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I was supposed to stay at the Hotel Andra for one night as an ALL Plat but aborted my stay and left to stay elsewhere after the property refused to accommodate a late check-out of 4pm. I was emphatically told by two representatives that the hotel does not and would not grant a late check-out after 1pm, notwithstanding availability. Given this, business travellers who have lunch appointments and need flexibility beyond this should proactively stay somewhere else. I spoke to two front desk agents when I arrived at 3pm, after the first agent escalated the matter to a more senior member of the team. I requested for a late check-out so they could code my card accordingly. Both said that the hotel does not grant late check-outs past 1pm. The lead agent explained that even if the hotel was not full, he would charge guests a half-day rate, because housekeeping would need to stay late when they were supposed to leave at 5pm. This is inconsistent with the spirit of the ALL programme which provides for late check-out out benefits. I was not even checking in early on this occasion! After I requested for written confirmation that the hotel would cancel the reservation without penalty, the Andra’s reservations manager spoke to me and explained that while he would typically try to grant a late check-out, he expected the property to be full that night in my room category, even though the property was not full at the time of our conversation. This wasn’t particularly credible and also inconsistent with what his staff said. Nonetheless, I appreciated that the reservations manager cancelled the reservation. It was the least they can do. Notably, the hotel seems good at nickel and diming guests (e.g., emails about upgrades etc.) and seems to optimise for profit maximisation instead of hospitality. It is within the property’s right to do so, but it leaves a nasty taste. My misplaced faith in the Andra resulted in having to pay a higher rate at the W Seattle. I spent an additional US$100 that night staying somewhere else (because of the last minute booking, as compared to having booked the W at the time I booked the Andra). Others should consider this a cautionary tale to just stay elsewhere in the first instance. Claiming that a 1pm late check-out is what a property can do for top tier elites is insulting. Hotel Andra represents everything that is wrong with the Accor programme which does not specify standards for hotels, unlike Marriott Bonvoy which guarantees 4pm check out. There is some give and take in these hotel bookings — sometimes we arrive late and leave early due to flight or work schedules. The inflexibility in accommodating benefits in the chain’s loyalty programme should be viewed with concern. Do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere.

Hotel Andra never disappoints!

What a lovely hotel in a lovely city. Hotel Andra is perfectly located in Seattle, near incredible restaurants and walking distance to numerous activities. If you don’t feel like being a sightseer, just relax in your gorgeous room and go downstairs to Lola for a delicious meal or two. FABRIZIO, the most charming concierge of all time, can make your stay a delight. I highly recommend Hotel Andra!

So cozy and classy.

This is a wonderful, comfortable hotel walkable to most points of interest. Clean rooms, excellent linens and beds (not too squishy). Walkable to most points of interest, and the concierge, Fabrizio, was super helpful--especially helping us decide on places to eat. Be sure to eat at Lola, at least once. Even their breakfasts are amazing.

Central location and comfort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

This is a boutique hotel, a Marriott but “M Gallery” which is presumably a label designed to convey that this is not a standard Marriott and so don’t expect vending machines on each floor. The hotel is an old 10 storey brick building on a corner which has been nicely refurnished. Because it’s boutique, the lobby isn’t that spacious, and the doorman isn’t always there and the services are a bit more limited. But there’s a restaurant attached and you have pretty much everything you need. You miss a nice water cooler and morning coffee in the lobby (there’s one of those airport bottle refillers round the corner by the code entry bathrooms) but you have a good location and a nicely appointed room. Only 2 slow elevators, but the rooms are nice. The bathroom was a little cramped and the toilet flush had the noise and power of what I can only imagine the jet thrust of an F16 taking off from an aircraft carrier sounds like. A very comfy King bed, and a nice sofa to lounge on, big TV. As with all American hotels, the room was very dimly lit, I’ve never understood this. The location though is very good - basically walking distance to many of the main central Seattle sights. Even so, the immediate environs has more than its fair share of weed and crack smoking and homelessness on display, which can be a bit confronting to those not used to it. Central Seattle has beautiful busy streets and then the very next one can be deserted car parks with obvious drug deals going down. So some caution is needed. We were comfortable walking from and to the hotel into the early evening, but were taking Ubers for dinner. We thought this was a nice hotel and if we stayed in central Seattle again we would revisit.

Pleasant surprise

This hotel was quite a surprise. I actually wasn’t expecting that much from it but the design was fantastic and I absolutely loved the location. The restaurant downstairs was so good I ate there twice - yeah Alan which is saying something because I rarely go to the same place twice. The staff were all super friendly and very helpful and I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough
