Named for the monarch who commissioned it in 1928, Hotel Alfonso XIII, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Seville was conceived as Europe's most luxurious hotel. This member of the Luxury Collection is situated just minutes from the Plaza de España, among the arches and arabesques in Seville's historic city center. Exquisitely appointed guest rooms and suites, designed to accommodate heads of state, resonate with grand European style, creating elegance and a tender, opulent stay in the Andalusian capital.

We love this hotel. Have been visiting over the past 20 years, great location, authentic decor, good service and very comfortable beds. A comfy Frette robe is always a sign of a great hotel. We also love a cocktail in the American bar or relaxing in the lobby with a coffee

Our group of friends booked 4 rooms (same room category/rate) for 3 nights at the Hotel Alfonso and we all had different experiences. We also stayed at the Mercer Sevilla for 3 nights so we have a basis for comparison. The property itself is impressive. The rooms were large and clean. The beds were very comfortable. The lobby and public spaces were beautiful. Unfortunately the gym seems to be a bit of an afterthought -- it is outside in a small-ish building - but this may be a temporary situation. The restaurant was very good at dinner and okay for breakfast. The Alfonso is in a great location. It is very close to the Alcazar, Cathedral, Plaza de Espana and a short walk to the main tourist area, restaurants and shops. One party (not the Titanium member) was completely happy with their stay - they received excellent service at check-in, quick responses to requests and snacks/desserts/treats every night. For everyone else: - Some of the front desk staff were more helpful than others. When I checked in, the person just gave me a key and sent me on my way. The only request I made was to attach my Marriott Bonvoy account number to my reservation - which they did not do. The other person checking in our party clearly explained the amenities (breakfast hours, services offered, etc.), gave my friends a map and walked them to the elevators. - 3 out of 4 rooms did not get turn down on at least one night. - Housekeeping for my room did not replace used coffee cups and water glasses and did not replenish bottled water so by the last night I had to call to ask for clean cups. - Only 1 room received a daily snack/treat. The concierge desk was similarly inconsistent. Two of the concierges were extremely helpful with bookings and recommendations, while two others said that they would get back to us and never did. Of course these are not truly significant problems but when a hotel has the reputation of the Alfonso, claims to be a 5-star luxury property and charges accordingly, I think it is fair to nit-pick. Overall we did enjoy our stay at the Alfonso but would recommend Mercer Sevilla over this property for the service and price.

This is a real mixed bag of a place, with some really nice aspects and some not-so-good features. The building is wonderful and exudes a sense of historical importance. It is well-maintained and there are free tours in the afternoons, which is a very nice idea. The location cannot be beaten either; everything is within easy walking distance and the valet car parking worked very well. Check-in was amazingly slow. Maybe we were just unlucky and arrived at a particularly busy point in the afternoon, but there was lots of to-ing and fro-ing of people behind the reception desk, and lots of people waiting to be seen. There was a general impression of semi-organised chaos. We were shown up to our room, which looked out over the outdoor bar area. If you value your sleep, don't have a room here. The bar shuts at 2 am and until then, it is very noisy. After one night of that, we got our room changed. Both of our rooms were comfortable but rather dark and uninspiring. And I don't like showers over baths; a personal thing, perhaps, but I would much prefer a room with just a shower rather than having to climb over the wall of a bath in order to get to the shower. The bathroom had a brilliant set of amenities, though, which included mouthwash. Full marks for that. We tried the bar one evening and didn't need to return. Service was woefully slow, with the serving staff all running around like headless chickens barking into earpieces. It was not a relaxing or elegant experience, and while there was a large range of cocktails on offer, the barman had no clue what a 'dry martini' was. The pool was very nice; a good size and with plenty of seating around it. We loved the free sorbets that we were offered and the servers at the little bar were very friendly and attentive. In all its a hotel that thinks it is rather better than it actually is; there are too many aspects that don't meet my expectations when paying these prices and so, in all, not a hotel I need to stay at again.

Just back from my 3rd visit to this iconic hotel in Sevilla. It is very grand, with all of its tiles and large rooms and lobby. And the service is wonderful at the Concierge Desk, with Antonio Morilla and his colleague Francesco Lorenzo. Luis Lema at the Front Desk was extremely helpful. This is THE place to stay in Seville!

I had seen a photo of the hotel and read a bit of it's history—built between 1916 and 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, but nothing would have prepared me for this extraordinarily beautiful, dream-like example of Neo-Mudejar style. We literally gasped. I took many photos and have included some. Marriott took it over (although the historic building belongs to the city!) and happily, any updates were not noticeable except in its great comfort—beds, bath that retained original tiles and was about the size of my first apartment, and other amenities. My title refers, however, to the building yes, but even more important—the staff. It may seem odd to say that by the end of our 5 days, we felt a close connection to them, nurtured! Not like a hotel at all. This was due to Antonio Morilla, the head concierge, who immediately understood the kind of places we wanted to eat and where we wanted to go other than the cathedral and Alcazar, for which I had already booked tickets. Thanks to him, we spent a day across the river wandering in Triana and learning about Andalusian ceramics past and present. Triana has a different vibe from Seville and we enjoyed its neighborhoods , especially the parts along the river. Antonio steered us to tapas and high end cuisine. His knowledge about not just the city, but I'd have to say its soul enriched our stay. He also made sure we didn't get lost! A caring individual—many thanks for the beautiful book you gave us and earlier the special bottle of wine!— as was the concierge Irene Velasco. The hotel offers a tour at 6 Saturday evenings that one may book, which we did. Irene was our guide and we were the only ones on it. It was fun to go up to the roof terrace and other parts of the hotel, plus learn about King Alfonso XVIII whom it seems oversaw ever aspect of the construction! We ended in the fantastic Art Deco Bar Americano with photos of patrons such as Hemingway (of course), Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Peter O'Toole, presenting us with the bar's special Seville orange mimosas and tapas!Leaving Sunday morning, we met Carlo Suffredini , the general manager, and were able to thank him in person for the Cava he had sent to the room and the violets in sugar plus tell him about Antonio, Irene, Francisco, concierge, and those like Christian on the front desk. The fact that the staff is long serving is a tribute to his management and the kind of grand hotel that still seems like home he oversees. Muchas Gracias and we will be back! We are in love with Sevilla and the Alfonso!
