Not a "Luxury Collection" Hotel by Any Standard

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This might be my worst Marriott Stay in the APEC region, if not the entire world. We were "upgraded" to a suite with: -Broken Shower Holder and floor tiles -Missing remote controls -Suite living room has no couch, chairs, or table with lamps as indicated in the photos, lounger was moved to living room from bedroom as the only seating in the entire room besides the single office chair. In room safe also missing due to "matinence" -Many many stains on the carpeting and the walls -Many items, like the water boilers, visibly dirty -Lounge, and Spa both closed; without notification before check in breakfast offered in the "replacement" lounge on the 1st floor had terrible quality and cleanliness. -Both the staff member checking us in, and when we complained, stated the hotel was old, in need of refurbishment, and that the pictures on the website and 3rd party platforms was KNOWN to be incorrect and outdated; and one of the staff members had been borrowed from another nearby Marriott hotel. -Amenities promised at check in (Cake etc) never provided. No attempt at service recovery was made besides "we can change you to another room but cant gaurentee it would be better, or we can cancel your next 2 nights". When a Fairfield or a Courtyard is not only the same price but significantly better; properly advertised and maintained; versus a "Lux Collection" hotel that should be on par with Ritz, St Regis and EDITION; but apears and is handled like this hotel does, I could not be more disapointed in the Marriott brand alowing this hotel to get away with it. I stay 30-40 nights a year all around Mainland China and the SAR's; and I can say without a doubt I have stayed at cheaper Fairfields in T2 and T3 cities that had better amenities, staff, and accomodation than this hotel.

Dated , closed lounge

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Having been to Shanghai plenty of times during the last few years, I had never stayed in that area. In my opinion, it only makes sense if one has business in the area, although there is a large metro station not far.  The hotel is very dated, and the luxury collection brand is definitely a stretch. The room was large and clean; same for the bathroom; it was also quiet.  The lounge has been closed since early March, and they offer a replacement service in the first-floor restaurant. The food selection is not bad, with several hot dishes and drinks. It is, of course, not the same as a proper lounge when you can pop in during the day. There is no information about the closure on the Marriott page, and they actually still show the rooms with the old lounge. The pool is huge and would be great for swimming, but it opens only at 9 a.m. What could be acceptable for a holiday resort is really bad for a business hotel where people also want to swim before work. The gym is large but very old, and many machines are filthy.  Breakfast is ok; choices are limited but covers the basics.  The staff was friendly, and English was mostly no issue.

A taste of luxury in Shanghai

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

First time here, and found out that it's part of the Marriott chain. Pretty impressive. Great sleep, rooms were comfy. Awesome breakfast, with noodle station, egg station, many selections available for pastries, danish, etc. Fitness room though dated, was spacious and adequate with cycles, treadmills and ellipticals. Many weight machines and a couple of weight stacks as well.

Comfortable stay in central Shanghai Pudong area

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

Nice hotel in central Pudong location. Great transport links (metro/ bus), helpful staff and nice views over Shanghai. The breakfast buffet was ok, with room for improvement, the Executive Lounge is beautifully located on the 40th floor, but needs for some of their junior staff members to be better trained when it comes to customer service. Also, you need Alipay translate to communicate with staff members, which is actually quite common across China, so this didn’t impact my experience whatsoever. Overall a pleasant stay at a fair price.

Not up to luxury collection standards

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed January 13, 2024

Stayed for 2 nights at this hotel and the initial impression of this hotel is pretty decent. The room size is spacious and the bathroom has plenty of space. Generally clean but I did find some tidbit crumps on the carpet below the work desk area when we just checked in. The rate that I booked did not include breakfast and my Marriott Bonvoy Gold tier did not qualify for breakfast, however the reception lady pleasantly offered free breakfast stating because its our first time staying at this hotel. The breakfast did not live up to the luxury collection standard though. It is located between 2 metro stations (pudian station and century avenue station). I would suggest walking from century avenue station as it is connected to century link mall and there are 4 different metro lines.
