Debuting on the historic riverfront Bund in 2009, The Peninsula Shanghai is The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels flagship hotel in Mainland China. Being the first new building on the Bund in several decades, it has twice been voted the Best Hotel in Asia by Travel + Leisure magazine, and the hotel’s Yi Long Court, and Sir Elly’s restaurants both earned Michelin stars in The Michelin Guide Shanghai 2017.

This hotel understands that luxury isn't just about expensive furnishings - it's about creating moments. The bartender who remembered our drinks, the housekeeper who noticed I prefer extra pillows, the front desk staff who helped plan a perfect day - every interaction felt special. The restaurant's atmosphere was sophisticated yet comfortable, and the morning coffee service was exceptional

From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the attention to detail. Every element seemed carefully chosen to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. The staff moved with quiet efficiency, always there when needed but never intrusive. It was like being in a well-orchestrated symphony where every note was perfectly in tune.

My sister and I arrived in Shanghai and the Peninsula Shanghai Hotel for a five-day visit from Tokyo in the middle of last August. From the first moment we entered the hotel, we felt that we had arrived at the hotel from another level. The Check-in performed by Claire was performed efficiently and smoothly, and the instruction regarding the various amenities in the room and how to operate them was done with warmth and humanity. Another thing that must be emphasized is the fairness that the hotel exhibits in the foreign Currency Exchange services - after the poor exchange rate we received in the foreign currency exchange at the airport when we converted US dollars to Yuan, it was a pleasant surprise to receive a reasonable rate at the hotel's front desk. The room itself was on the 11th floor with a view of the garden and the magnificent Shanghai skyline (especially at night when the lights come on) The room is large and spacious with a sofa and a great supply of seasonal fruits that refresh you in the Shanghai summer heat. Another thing that is unique, in my opinion, to Peninsula, is their large and wonderful closet. In most of the hotels - at least in 99% of them - when two people come with two suitcases to the hotel room, in most cases there is only room to store and place one suitcase in the designated place. The second suitcase will find its way to the corner of the room, or to any other location that will not interfere with moving around the room. The Peninsula has enough space for two suitcases and the rest of your trolley luggage, and everything in the room is great and well equipped. The marble-clad shower and tub are everything you'd expect from a Peninsula Hotel, and the towels are huge, soft, and luxurious. The room is of course quiet and the sleep is great. It is impossible to finish without mentioning the wonderful team of chambermaids who come back, ask and make sure there is nothing missing. Breakfast in the huge and amazing lobby of the hotel was rich and of high quality. Hope we can come back again soon.

We booked two rooms, a massive one with a glorious view on the bund, and another one for the children. Peninsula know their business with all these custom fixtures for plugging your devices in etc. The pantry is super massive as well, which on a three week trip makes things handy. The breakfast spread and quality was vastly improved compared to our previous trip, and as for the place itself, it's clearly amazing. Such a massive neo-art-deco is a sight to behold and a romantic reinterpretation of a past that probably never was that "grand". The indoor pool is just super massive which is nice to cool off the heat

We spend 3 nights, we booked 2 rooms one of them with view to the Huangpu, highly recommended. The hotel is just Fantastic, rooms are luxurious, spacious, distribution and equipment just perfect. Spa area amazing. Personal all over the hotel professional, helpful and kind. Breakfast delicious. The hotel, by itself, is an experience. It made our stay in Shanghai incredible,we would, for sure, come back.
