The Grand Hotel Royal, member of Alberghi Storici d'Italia (Historic Hotels of Italy), is five-star estate in the heart of Sorrento, perched over the sea in a privileged location overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the Mount Vesuvius, surrounded by a large park boasting exotic plants, amazing camellias, orange and lemon trees. A little bit of history - Between the two wars, the hotel welcomed the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy, Francesco Saverio Nitti. Built in 1898, this was the hotel for the aristocracy who flocked from all over Europe to enjoy the grand gala evenings on the terrace high above the sea, with the Gulf of Naples stretched out before them.

This hotel is a well -designed gem in Sorrento! The rooms are beautiful, the grounds are exquisite, and the staff is excellent. From the people in the restaurant to the people at the reception desk, your needs will always be taken care of. The views from the balcony are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life. Guistina at the reception desk took care of everything that we needed. From dinner reservations to transportation , she always went the extra mile. On our departure, we wanted to go to Pompeii, but couldn’t figure out how to get our luggage on the train. She arranged to have our luggage meet us in Pompeii with a private driver. This was so helpful and everything worked out perfectly. Our stay here was absolutely wonderful!

Where to begin! This is a hotel which oozes style and service. You won’t regret investing in your stay here. Grounds - lots of spaces to sit and enjoy the views. Including the terrace and jetty. All maintained daily. Facilities- pool area is well maintained and being off peak it was an enjoyable experience to have the pool to myself! The seaside terrace offers further pleasant spaces to relax. The steps into the sea were a little wobbly and algae covered- to be expected in the sea! Room - spacious and well decorated, bathroom very nice. Housekeeping are very attentive, visiting several times a day. Chocolate at turn down is a special touch. Food - breakfast offers a range of options, including fresh fruit, cheeses, pastries, chef station for freshly cooked eggs! We also dined at the Al la Carte restaurant one evening, superb food and well on its journey to a Michelin star! We were highly impressed by the food, the quality ingredients, and service. Location - perfect! A short walk to the centre of Sorrento but set aside to enable a relaxing atmosphere. Some of the other 5 star hotels are a longer distance and would require taxis so this is a really well placed location base. Service- we attended Sorrento to be married at The Cloister, the hotel made sure every detail was special. A hand written card to welcome our arrival was a sign of the experience ahead. Staff were friendly and helpful. Clearly highly trained in hospitality services, a level of traditional service you don’t often see. We didn’t mention that it was my birthday but the hotel noticed on my passport, a further hand written card with small pastry was delivered to the room on a silver platter. Overall we felt this hotel was on another level! Highly recommended.

This hotel doesn’t get enough praise. It is beyond beautiful, stunning views over The Mediterranean Sea and Mount Vesuvius, great pool with jacuzzi, access to the sea from a private sun deck… breakfast is great and the staff is beyond attentive. The location is perfect as only 2 min walk from a train and bus stations and right next to the town centre. Having seen other hotels I think this one has the best location and amenities. I will definitely be back !

This hotel exceeded our expectations. The customer service was beyond 5 star - from the front desk to housekeeping to the wait staff I cannot say enough good things. We were greeted with an early checkin and a room upgrade without even asking (we are not loyalty members with this hotel). We had a very early checkout on our last day and they sent us with a to-go bag of pastries, sandwiches and juice, again without us asking. The location is perfect. Close for walking to shopping and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.

Just returned from our second stay at the Grand Hotel Royal and again it did not disappoint. Staff is wonderful , hotel is clean and comfortable throughout. We a few days of wet weather on this trip but the hotel has some lovely public areas which we were able to enjoy.
