The Grand Hotel Royal, member of Alberghi Storici d'Italia (Historic Hotels of Italy), is five-star estate in the heart of Sorrento, perched over the sea in a privileged location overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the Mount Vesuvius, surrounded by a large park boasting exotic plants, amazing camellias, orange and lemon trees. A little bit of history - Between the two wars, the hotel welcomed the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Italy, Francesco Saverio Nitti. Built in 1898, this was the hotel for the aristocracy who flocked from all over Europe to enjoy the grand gala evenings on the terrace high above the sea, with the Gulf of Naples stretched out before them.

Francesco Cinque the Events Manager at the Grand Hotel Royal was an incredible support planning our reception. We visited and booked the venue a year in advance and we were sold by the breathtaking views from the cliff marina events area that overlooks mount Vesuvius from Sorrento. The attention to detail and the efficiency from all the staff at Grand Hotel cannot be faulted. Thank you Francesco for everything. Best memories were made!

The location is great—close enough to walk to the city center but separated enough to be quiet at night. Felt safe walking home at night after dinner. The amenities are very nice. The “beach” is actually a dock that you can access via an elevator. There are steps down into the water for swimming and you can order drinks while you lounge. Domenico is the main attendant and he is wonderful—very attentive and accommodating! Up on the cliffside the pool is also nice. Interestingly, the “hot tub” is not actually hot, it is the same temperature as the pool but there are jacuzzi jets. This is likely a common practice in Italy as the same was true in the other hotels we stayed in. Lorenza at the pool is amazing—she gave us a bunch of great restaurant recommendations for good food reasonably priced, and she even called ahead and told them it was our anniversary, ensuring that we were taken care of. The gym is serviceable, one treadmill, a couple other machines and some free weights. We thought the restaurant was good for lunch (you can’t beat the view) but for dinner you can find a better meal in town if you do some looking. The breakfast spread is quite good with fresh fruit, typical European breakfast items and an omelette bar. The staff can make or break a hotel experience and both Domenico and Lorenza made our experience so great. In addition to providing wonderful service, they were great to talk to and welcomed us to Italy with warmth and kindness! We look forward to returning and seeing them again.

We stayed for 5 nights at the Grand Royal. The service, ambience and accommodations made this the most memorable trip of our lives. The landscaping is breathtaking. The guest rooms were clean and comfortable. Our sea view terrace was gorgeous. Enjoying the private beach was our favorite day time activity and the tunnel walk down to the beach is magical. The location was perfect - close walk to local restaurants and the ferry. We would like to extend special thanks to Mauro, Paolo, and Florenza for their outstanding hospitality. The gentleman at the beach club was also amazing (I didn’t catch his name). We had family staying at a different hotel nearby paying the same rate as us and their experience was far from as nice as ours. We will all stay at the Grand Royal next time. Thank you all! ❤️❤️❤️

We were looking for a place to have a lovely aperitivo out on a terrace, and we came across the Grand Hotel Royal’s gate. From the moment we stepped foot on to the terrace, we were amazed by the beautiful view and decor! The hostess, Sara, was extremely friendly and kind. She made sure we got a good place out on the terrace to see the view of the Sorrento bay, and was always checking in on us to see if everything was going well. She also recommended a lot of places to visit and eat! Could not recommend this place enough, even if you want to just stop by just for a drink and away from the busy city centre.

Absolutely exquisite hotel with a beautiful view over the Bay of Naples. Perfect location, less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento and with a cute, Italian style lemon grove and cafe directly across the road. Rooms were stunning. Decent size and elegantly decorated, with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco on arrival. We had a large balcony with a sea view which made for perfect evenings watching the sun set over the bay. Luxurious lobby and terrace with comfortable seating and sun beds and a high end restaurant. We found the staff to be particularly helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble and their enthusiasm for having happy, well looked after guests really shone. This was without exception. Top quality hotel and one which I would highly recommend.
