Stuning castle hotel with true historic charm

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Stunning castle with perhaps the most exceptional historical charm I've experienced at a hotel. I had the pleasure of staying in the King Edward VI's suite which was stunning and very spacious. The staff were helpful and accommodating at every point. I recommend it highly - though probably best as a couple as it's almost too good to enjoy on one's own.

Simply perfect

I adore this place, As a Tudor fan it is just beautiful, Stayed for my third time in January, booked a castle suite and as usual it didn’t disappoint. The food has somehow got even better than last time. The bar food is a short menu but it is well worth the price and really lovely. Afternoon tea was great the cakes were amazing. The breakfast has stepped up from last year and it was good then! The staff are just lovely as always. Already planning our future wedding here as i just love it so much. Literally can’t praise it enough. Thank you to Giorgia and the team x

Fit for the king!

Very much enjoyed staying in a unique place of Tudor history. Excellent staff who were genuine, friendly and attentive. Superb dining, I highly recommend the tasting and wine pairing. Bedrooms are all different and quirky. Beds are very comfortable with high quality linen etc. Be aware that not all rooms have 4-poster beds or look quite as appealing as the website photos, but our suite had great charm. Some rooms are accessed via spiral staircases so factor this in if you don't like heights or have mobility issues. The gardens are not big but they are very pleasant to wander (even in winter) and have some lovely nooks where you can pause and enjoy the space. Overall our weekend was wonderful and we made some fabulous memories.

A very special stay in a Tudor Castle!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

A really special place to stay although expensive but we got a good deal on Secret Escapes. We upgraded to a suite and were in the Elizabeth of York suite with a beautiful four poster bed. The suite was very spacious with many places to sit including a dining room table. There was a dressing room and a lovely large bathroom with a slipper bath and a separate shower cubicle all with under floor heating and Molton Brown toiletries. We had drinks and accompanying nibbles in the lounge sat in front of the fire before our meal The three course dinner which we had as part of the package was beautifully presented and top notch. As perhaps you would expect at this upmarket hotel the listed wines were very expensive but there were a few half bottle options which were more in our budget! Breakfast was served at table with plenty of options and was excellent. Service was efficient and friendly and not stuffy. However what really made this hotel is the history, although we didn't book a tour. It is easy to get information from the internet and leaflets as well as on the hotel tv. The Tudor garden with the view of the stunning multi bay windows and the elaborate chimney pots was very impressive. The ruined/unfinished walls of the barracks were also interesting. We managed to get a view of the huge Tudor fireplace in the 'Great Hall" although it was being used for a private event most of the time we were there.

Tudor Romance

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We visit every year and we still get the wow factor. History exudes, service immaculate, restaurant superb. The rooms are individual, the Elizabeth of York Suite this time, decorated in period and take you back in time. No better place for a romantic experience with Tudor vibes. We’ll be back again.
