Reviews for Green Mountain Inn

Another wonderful stay at Green Mountain Inn

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This was our third time staying at the Green Mountain Inn and we absolutely loved it! Everyone we encountered at the front desk (Rye and Lynn) was friendly, helpful and efficient. We've stayed in a different room type every trip. Once a suite. Once a deluxe room. This time a classic room that was just perfect for us. Love the fact that you can walk everywhere in town from the Inn. It's just a minute walk to the best restaurants: Harrison's, Plate, etc. We also really enjoyed our dinner at Whip Grill inside the Green Mountain Inn. I always get the classic turkey and stuffing dinner and it feels like Thanksgiving regardless of the time of year! We highly recommend staying here.

Excellent

On our entire trip through New England this was the best place we stayed and I wish we had stayed here for more nights than our other place in Stowe. Front desk staff were excellent although directions we were given to an apple orchard took us way out of the way up the mountain to someone's personal house. We came in early enough hoping to get breakfast but they wouldn't serve it to us the first day. They told us to sit in the parlor to wait and they would have lunch. But what they didn't say was lunch was downstairs and a line started there. We figured this out on our own luckily so there weren't too many people in front of us. People came in after us and walked right in front of us and no one did anything. The food was very good. The Starr (a club sandwich) was excellent. Service was pretty subpar but at least the guy smiled. We went back for dinner. And once again the food was excellent. Husband ordered the corn chowder but was brought the soup du jour. He's pretty easy to please and said he liked it so we left it alone. My dinner was also very good. I had the Vermont Cheddar Omelet the next morning and it was excellent which is a lot for me to say because I very rarely eat omelets. I would do that again. This time; however, our server was so bad we left no tip and said something to the front desk. He did not check on us, did not chat with us (he did with other tables), didn't smile; nothing. I never don't leave a tip, but he deserved nothing it was so bad. There is plenty of parking and it is right downtown making it very convenient. The building maintenance people to the front desk gentleman who helped us with our luggage (there were no elevators in the building where we stayed) were outstanding. The bed was the most comfortable bed we stayed in the whole trip in New England. There was a jacuzzi tub in the main bedroom so I could keep watching my movie. The rooms were extremely large (and there were two). The only concern I had was that there seemed to be some residue in the tub that I thought came from the jets, but later learned that this is an issue with iron in the water in the town. I would go back to Stowe just to stay at this Inn again, and eat the food which was so good.

Charming but a few issues.

Stayed at the Inn during the first week of October. It is right in the heart of busy Stowe with all the people and traffic. During our stay they were doing maintenance which closed the side entrance. This made it difficult to get in and out with our luggage, to the pool, etc. Not sure why this couldn’t wait two more weeks until the busiest season of the year was over. As other reviews mention, you are not guaranteed a parking spot as a guest of the hotel. We did not have a real problem but it was stressful whenever we left not knowing what the situation would be when we returned. I can’t imagine staying here over a weekend. The lot is large but open to everyone. That being said, for the price we paid, the hotel was more than adequate with a certain charm and nice amenities. The rooms are showing some age, there was a musty smell and the carpet could use replacing. The hotel is probably overdue for an update but it’s still a good value to be in the heart of Stowe.

perfect location and just charming

We really enjoyed our time here. Location is fantastic and there is lots of parking. The EV chargers are slow though. The inn is quaint. We stayed in a Deluxe room, which was bigger than we expected. Because the building is old you can hear people walking on stairs if you're not on the top floor, but the room was otherwise pretty quiet. I'd avoid one facing the street. The pool and hot tub were really nice and we spent a lot of time there. We also tried the indoor hot tub one night when the outside one was crowded. Towels are plentiful and staff keeps the area maintained pretty well. We did not eat at the restaurant this time, but people seemed to like it. The inn has a few random seating areas near windows that are nice to chill or read. Staff is just lovely and very helpful. I wasn't feeling well at one point and they brought us a microwave and dishes to heat some soup. It was great to be able to walk to everything on Main St.

Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We were expecting great things after readings reviews on the hotel. Sadly it didnt meet our expectations. We had to complain twice about the heating and the second time the member of staff was downright rude. The indoor spa area needs maintenance as half the jets in the jacuzzi didn't work , there was no hot water in the showers and the lockers didn't lock. The room was very small and extremely noisy. Not helped by the delivery lorry that arrived at 630 every morning and sat with its engine running for 15 minutes. Generally disappointing.
