About the Hotel

For those who seek excitement while savoring absolute privacy, Nihi Sumba Island is a singular retreat that resides in splendid isolation 400 kilometers east of Bali on the Indonesian Archipelago. Hidden on a secluded bay on the remote southwestern coast of Sumba Island, it offers just six bungalows and two villas, thatch-roofed and hand-built in contemporary Indonesian style by local craftsmen. Acres of dense tropical forest, rice terraces and grasslands add to the luxury that lives in harmony with the Sumbanese people and their island culture.

The spa safari at Nihi Sumba was Epic!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I went to Nihi Sumba on my way to Raja Ampat. It was the PERFECT place to break up a long trip coming from the U.S. I had been told by friends that the spa safari was a must! The experience was one of the most beautiful moments in my life! The spa is set amongst lush green rice fields with the backdrop of beautiful ocean views and the sound of the waves crashing. I would suggest spending the entire day there. They can accommodate breakfast and/or lunch. You can even ride the Sumban horses there if you like. Sunsets are EPIC! Enjoy!

A magical stay at Nihi Sumba

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Forget Bali in our opinion this is Indonesia’s most beautiful island. Staying at Nihi Sumba is a hotel that preserves the culture and traditions of the island. Its location is nothing short of spectacular. Endless unspoiled stunning wild coastline with beautiful thatched roofed luxurious villas nestled amongst the tropical gardens with uninterrupted views of the crystal clear ocean. Nihi makes it a priority to celebrate and safeguard the island’s culture and environment setting ip a Foundation to facilitate this. We experienced several memorable activities; horse racing on the beach. Releasing baby turtles into the sea and swimming with the indigenous sandalwood horses. The team at Nihi were engaging and kind anticipating your needs while helping you create lasting memories.

Truly a special experience from the beginning (origin Airport) to the end. I will remember it for life. Touched by the genuine hospitality. Amazed by what Nihi has done for the community. NihiOka was also very special and beautiful beyond words. Thank you so much. Special mention to Sabine, Anggreini, Petrus, Arnier, Dedi, Paula, Satria, Liong, Chef Krisna.

Nihi is the perfect description of Paradise on earth. If you like to discover the remote Indonesia with luxury, this hotel is for you. The staff and the all the activities and experiences are incredible. The private surf break with jetski will allow you to get some epic waves one after the other. Don't forget to book the safari spa and swim with the horses . Highly recommended . Magic . We will be back again

Highly recommended - fantastic family time.

Sumba joins Maldives and Japan, as a destination to which we will most definitely wish to keep coming back. The Nihi beach is arguably the most amazing we’ve ever seen, the food was top quality and seeing the horses run every morning never gets old. The hotel feels very private and the “Edge of Wildness” slogan really feels fitting here. We highly recommend this place to virtually any sort of traveller. Our only concern is that it’s difficult to avoid Bali altogether when planning a trip here, but we remain hopeful for more flight connections which would allow us to skip that hellhole next time :)
