Estonia, once part of the former Soviet Union, is becoming quite the travel destination. In the bustling northern city of Tallinn is the remarkable Hotel Telegraaf, housed in a historic 1878 building that once served as an exchange for the Estonian Telegraph Company. Named to the Condé Nast Traveller, UK Hot List, this swank urban retreat boasts five-star status and a premier central location. Most guest chambers are located in the hotel's historic tower, while the Executive Rooms are housed in a newer wing. They all feature contemporary design, historical touches, and courtyard or city views.

Excellent City Hotel. Beds were the most comfy ever and the pillow menu a joy. Bonvoy recognition was the best at any hotel I stayed as a Titanium. Great upgrade and wonderful suite. Spa was great for a city hotel es well. What could be better: - no gym available.

Inside the Old Town walls, the location could not be more perfect for exploring the compact cobblestone streets on foot. Note that ride shares (Uber, etc) cannot drop you or pick you up in front of the hotel, but down the block 100 meters. Only taxis can come to the door. Check-in was pleasant and efficient, and as lifetime Titanium elite members, we were upgraded to a junior suite. Spacious and well appointed with large bath tub/shower, make up mirror, bath sheets and Elemis amenities. Daily housekeeping if you want it. Two water bottles provided each day. No balcony but the window did open a bit for fresh air. Tea kettle in the room. Morning breakfast in the Tchaikovsky restaurant was a generous mix of European buffet offerings plus a menu for ordering omelettes. They’ll bring your coffee and tea to you but you can enjoy choosing from the buffet on your own. The spa offers a quiet respite at the end of the day so bring a swimsuit. Robes and slippers are provided in your room. And try a massage! About half the price of US spas and every bit as good! Umbrellas are available for free at reception, if needed. And for local crafts, the Katariina Guild alley is just across the street, and the Master’s Courtyard is just up the way. Hindricus has lovely handmade articles, and Vivian Vau shoes are one of a kind. Be sure to seek them out. I can recommend two restaurants: Margherita for pizza and Controvento (in the Katariina Kaik alley) for outstanding Italian. There’s a Rimi convenience store nearby and the infamous Maiasmokk cafe is just around the corner. Can you tell I loved my stay??

No question about it, this is a beautiful hotel located in the historic old city section of Tallinn. Facilities are well maintained including our lovely room, wonderful pool and spa, indoor/outdoor breakfast area, bar and more. But that’s where it ends. Managers appear to be absent and guest relations sorely lacking I am a Marriott Lifetime Titanium elite member for over 50 years with more than 3,700 nights at Marriott’s globally. I have stayed in some of the best and worst Marriott has to offer and The Hotel Telegraaf, advertised as one of Marriott’s premier Autograph properties, failed miserably to provide guests with the level of services advertised and expected. We encountered a simple problem: our hotel laundry went missing. Over 3 days front desk employees failed to address the lost laundry. One particular employee stands out for his incompetents: Maxxim, who, notwithstanding language differences, did not seem to care about locating our laundry. There was another young, blond hair employee who introduced himself as the “customer service supervisor”, who we spoke with on the first day, and then simply vanished and never followed up. We traveled for several weeks prior to arrival at Hotel Telegraaf where we planned to send laundry to the hotel’s service. Following instructions, we handed our laundry in a hotel bag to Maxxim at the front desk who said it would be returned by 4:00PM that same day. We spoke with Maxxim later that day when the laundry failed to be returned. Maxxim showed little interest in locating our missing laundry and stonewalled every time we asked to speak to the front desk manager, or any manager, who always seemed to be "in a meeting" according to Maxxim. For 3 days, and in spike of multiple requests, no hotel manager ever spoke with us in person or called our room. Of the several front desk employees we spoke with only one stands out, Kristi, who went out of her way to be helpful. On the day of our departure Kristi offered to reimburse us for the missing items, which we accepted. She’s a long-term employee who truly understands the meaning of guest relations.

Good five star hotel. All as expected. Not quite perfect: front desk were too matter of fact for my liking - could have been more forthcoming with assistance; gym not in house and only access to a public one which was 5-10 minutes walk. If management wants to understand my points, front desk said the gym was 5 minutes away but did not bother to get a map out and show me. It was only on the way back I saw there was a short cut to the hotel. They could have advised also that it was a public gym and that I should go there with my own bottle of water. Niggles and not essential points. The rooms otherwise are well appointed and equipped, and the bed was very comfortable.

We had a very comfortable two night stay. The wait staff at the hotel was excellent at the included breakfast. Service was the best we have had on our travels throughout the region. Very quiet room. So nice that it was possible to open the windows outward and enjoy the late summer day. Laundry service was quick and well priced. There is a terrific restaurant next door as well called Rado which is also just amazing.
