Comfortable Spot, Amazing Onsite Restaurant

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Perfect halfway hotel between DC and Boston. I've stayed here twice with my young family (2 adults, 2 kids) on Thanksgiving return drives back to Boston. Great both times. Super friendly and comfortable, beautiful manicured grounds. And now, Goosefeather, which is the type of meal I would expect to get in either DC or Boston - but as a hotel restaurant! You know it's good when it seems to be destination dining for the locals. We enjoyed an excellent meal, retired to our room for some rest, and woke up early for the second leg of the trip. Totally recommend it.

Bad Reviews Almost Made Us Cancel….Y’all Need to Chill! Dog and family Friendly.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Ok. So, my husband and I needed a dog-friendly hotel in the Lower Hudson Valley. We live in Los Angeles, used to live in NYC, and have roots in Atlanta and London so ... we've been around. For our specific needs (VERY limited dog-friendly options, even with airbnb) the Tarrytown Estate Hotel seemed to be our best option. After spending months of research, I have to admit that the negative reviews made me nervous. So much so that I packed my own coffee, towels, and sheets, as some users made it sound like an absolute fleabag. Ok, so the rooms aren't state-of-the-art, but we had a clean and comfortable stay that met our specific needs. Our stay coincided with TWO weddings on the property and staff still managed to make time for us. We aren't fans of Goosefeather (whose service was pretty snobbish and rude) so we did not spend much time there, but the location to Main Street Tarrytown is unbeatable for food ops. Speaking of food, yes, you have to pay for a buffet breakfast, but again: this hotel 100% met our needs and we were very pleased. (The takeaway option is a good deal, tbh.) We splurged one night of our 5-night stay and had a delightful view of the Hudson from a Mansion terrace room. Because I'd planned ahead, I knew to bring an additional charging hub to meet our needs in the Mansion space, which is beautiful but creaky. The rest of our trip was in the cottage rooms, where we'd brought a portable tea kettle because of the Keurig situation, BUT we found out that was totally unnecessary because coffee was also free in the morning at the beautiful Biddle Mansion. Our little fur baby loved this place. We loved the morning strolls. We loved the location. It was Halloween time and the river towns were bursting with festivities. We were very pleased with the hotel's overall customer service. (Thank you, Oralinda!!) And we even drove to Central Park West on a Sunday morning in less than 30 minutes. My husband and I aren't fussy folks, so maybe our standards aren't as high as those of others. We are used to making concessions like paying for breakfast and wonky rooms. But I really think people who book here need to understand that options are limited in the Lower Hudson Valley. You're not getting The Ritz or the Pierre. You're not getting New York City. You ARE getting a safe, clean place to stay, with delightful grounds in a spectacular stretch of countryside. Would/will stay again.

An expensive stay with inexpensive accommodations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Overall, it is an attractive estate with several buildings and attractive views. However, for the price tag I feel it is not worth it in the slightest. For staying in the mansion room, you deal with the blaring music and sounds from the restaurant till about 1 am. If this was noted in the room description, I would’ve picked a different building. Even if they provided a sound machine in the room it would’ve made some difference. The room itself was nice with a king bed and two dressers. However one dresser was missing almost all knobs and the bathroom was not cleaned prior to arrival. As previously stated, the estate is large with a sprawling garden; which does make a walk to the fitness center. The fitness center is well equipped however it is right in the conference building making it very awkward walking through in gym clothes. Finally, I tried contacting the restaurant cellar 49 several times only to find it is only opened for private banquets ? A historical property for sure, but not worth the $830 price tag. Save your money and stay somewhere quieter and cleaner.

Overall very interesting, but mixed.

This is a very unique place. The estate building itself is charming. The grounds are well-maintained and the landscaping is great. The hotel buildings were obviously built over what is likely decades and thus it is a bit of a cornucopia of styles, levels, and seemingly random hallways, corners, and exits. It takes a while to find your room or find your way out of the hotel, or find your way really anywhere. Our room was spacious and clean. Housekeeping was very prompt however they did not leave any new terry. We called guest services, they too were very nice however the towels never showed up. C'est la vie but at this price point a little annoying. We were there to attend a wedding, which was exceptionally well executed. The catering staff here does a wonderful job. Everything from the wedding itself - which was outdoors at sunset, to a large-scale cocktail hour to the reception was well done. We did not dine at the third-party restaurant, but it seemed to be very popular just based on the number of people coming and going. They do have a restaurant that is open for breakfast (I think buffet only) and a bar downstairs in the Mansion proper which was sold out for parties on both nights we were there. Not a big deal if you are attending an event, but likely very annoying if you are not. My biggest recommendation for this place is that they should consider lighting the pathways at night. It is quite challenging, particularly because nothing is level, and in the dark more than a little dangerous. This was an adventure.

Great Vibe but Messy Outdoor Area

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We come here every other year on our anniversary. It’s always a relaxing and beautiful location. The only issue we had was that the outdoor seating area (couches) in the front were not maintained. We arrived at 2pm yesterday and it’s now noon and no one has cleared away the empty glasses, beer cans, etc. from the tables. We spoke with someone at the front desk and she said it was the responsibility of the restaurant, not the hotel. As the area is right outside their reception, I think it would be a concern for the hotel as well. Just my opinion
