Just an hour outside the bustle of Mexico City, lies a place where nature and nurturing come together to forge an unforgettable resort experience. Hostal de la Luz - declared a World Peace Location by the Dali Lama in 2006 - is surrounded by lush vegetation and the Tepozteco Mountains, and includes 23 luxurious suites, a full-service restaurant, and signature holistic spa. Here, the focus is on peace, health, and harmony - from the feng shui design and architecture, to the meditation alcoves and thoughtful personal service. Your suite features its own private terrace, connecting the bounty of beauty outdoors with the carefully designed interior spaces. Four-poster beds, cool stone flooring, and one-of-a-kind furniture add to the relaxed appeal. And you are sure to find the ultimate in comfort at every turn. Spend some time exploring the resort grounds to fully appreciate the offerings, including the mazes of walking labyrinths, and an ancient temazcal, where purification sessions increase balance and detoxify your body and mind. With such incredible amenities and such a unique approach, your time at Hostal de la Luz is much more than a vacation.

The place is fantastic, the merge of architectural styles, the amazing amenities, walking around like you are in some mystical land exploring like a kid. Landscaping and breathtaking views everywhere. They offer many amazing spa treatments which are high quality in general, but their yoga class (free class 9 am was very dissapointing) also the laberinto experience with the shaman, it was rushed, he was really good guiding it but at the end he cut it short, like he needed to be at some other place. We also tried the sacral pool and the music was on and off. The place has the potential to be superb, but need to really work on delivering better experiences.

We stayed for a whole week without mobile phone and doing our physical and digital detox. It all summarizes saying that the whole experience will depend on the room you have. We had two types of rooms, one with no view to the mountains and the other one (tlama) which was very quiet, with its own meditation space and a beautiful. Please see below a detailed review from best to worst: - spa: it is awesome! We took 6 or 7 therapies. Just go directly for the bigger packages of spa treatments. Having an immunological massage or and Ayurvedic one will bring you back to life. So professional girls. - hotel: staff is local, which I really love. They are really welcoming and nice people. However, they lack of training about hosting and wellness. So it would be nice to have all integrated in the holistic focus of the hotel. - restaurant: the worst! Extremely expensive for very easy-to-cook food. No tasty at all, so simple and low quality. We shared our opinions with a waiter and he said that the Chef has been changing and he changes the menu. It is incredible we could not have any good vegetarian option. We had special dinner on New Year’s Eve and it was much more elevated that the simple quesadillas they offer in the menu for an excessive price of around 150 Mexican pesos! Important note: Smoking is allowed in the outdoor part of the restaurant as well as in open areas. If you want to detox from pollution, then you will have to struggle with that kind of people. Thankfully, smoking in outdoor areas will be prohibited very soon in Mexico :)

There are several areas of improvement 1. They only place one bottle of water (750ml) per day in a room for two, which is obviously not enough, I was really thirsty every morning and it was quite difficult to get water. 2. There is no network coverage, wifi or telly. 3. Coffee in the restaurant cannot be called coffee, I rather call it dark, bitter hot water. 4. Check in and check our process takes ages 5. Mini swimming pools are charming but way to little to be share with three other couples.
