A Surprisingly Luxurious Stay at Grand Hyatt Tokyo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We initially chose the Grand Hyatt Tokyo mainly for its ideal location—perfectly central and close to Omotesando, which was where we wanted to be. However, our stay ended up exceeding expectations in every way. The hotel’s setting near Azabu-Juban and Roppongi is fantastic, offering a more neighborhood-like feel rather than a heavily touristy or business-focused atmosphere. The real standout here is the service—it was truly exceptional, feeling more like a Park Hyatt than a Grand Hyatt. From the moment we arrived, staff were incredibly attentive, always nearby and eager to assist. A particularly thoughtful touch was the daily provision and refilling of a humidifier, which we didn’t request but deeply appreciated given the dry winter air. The hotel’s spa is an underrated highlight. Guests have access to an outstanding gym, a beautiful pool, and an authentic onsen that even locals frequent. The entire wellness area had a refined, luxury-city feel, making it the perfect way to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The rituals and customs of the onsen also provided a great introduction to Japanese culture, adding to the overall experience. Without a doubt, if we return to Tokyo, we’ll be staying here again.

Great Location and Infrastructure but skip the Grand Club

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Rooms are clean and well-maintained. Electronics function and accomodate international travelers (plugs, outlets, voltage, etc.) The rooms are comfortable and quiet. Housekeeping and laundry services are excellent. The dining options are fantastic. I enjoyed the seasonal Fugu offering and the fare and service were first class! If you are a business traveler and like to use the Grand Club facility, then you will hate the one at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. Of all the Grand Hyatts in Asia, this Club experience was the worst. Young children run amok - at the breakfast session and in the evenings for snacks/drinks. The Grand Club does not post any signs about the minimum age of children. While I expect American, Indian and Chinese families to generally have no concern about their kids' impact on a shared facility, I was shocked to note how the Japanese families fell right in line when it came to ignoring basic courtesies and decorum. Their kids were as boisterous, loud, and obnoxious as any others - something you historically never saw given the traditional Japanese attention to etiquette. The Grand Club on the 10th Floor should be avoided if you prefer civility and peaceful settings. The gym has the same exercise equipment dating back 20 years, but it is well-maintained and clean. The spa area is perfectly maintained and clean and orderly.

Grand Indeed!

A crown jewel of the Hyatt brand that still looks great after all these years. Impeccably maintained and spotless, with professional and helpful staff everywhere you turn. Thoughtfully laid out rooms with a great shower. The spa is lovely - don't miss the massage chairs that are life-changing!

Poor service! Lifetime Globalists get treated poorly! Oddly shaped, small “Deluxe King” room with a bad view.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I am a Lifetime Globalist. I come to Tokyo for business all the time and was very much looking forward to staying at this prop as I’ve never been here (usually at the Park Hyatt which is under renovation or at the Hilton Shinjuku). Check in started out fine - the Duty Manager Nishihara san came by to say “hello”. The staff who accompanied me to the room was polite. But I was SHOCKED when I saw the room. I was given room 824. I was told the room was 55sq metres, but the room I was given looks nowhere near to being 55 sq meters. The room was very odd shaped, and cut up, so much so that it looks closer to being 35 sq metres. It looked very small and only had space for one chair (not even space for a sofa). Worst of all, the view looked into a dark, sad looking part of Roppongi. Office and residential buildings - I can’t tell as it was all dark outside. I am truly appalled. It’s bad enough that being a Lifetime Globalist, I was NOT even given an upgrade. I basically paid for and was given a King Deluxe. Fine. If the hotel is crowded, we can’t always expect to be upgraded. However what happened here is UNACCEPTABLE. I was probably given the worst King Deluxe room available with the worst view. And this for someone who is a Lifetime Globalist. It shows how poorly this property views Globalists and Lifetime Globalists. When I called to ask for a change of rooms, I was told that I could either “move rooms the next day to a room with a view of Tokyo Tower” or I could “move to a smaller room”. Why didn’t they give me a room with at least a decent view or a better configuration?! I arrive at almost 10PM, tired after a long day’s flight, and I am told if I move rooms the next day, I should be able to get a room with a nicer view. Shocking shocking shocking. I WILL NEVER BE BACK HERE.

Fantastic Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Incredible, first-class experience. The hotel is beginning to look a bit dated in design choices in photos, but remains well-maintained and well-staffed. The service was some of the best we've received at any hotel. The patisserie on the ground floor is award-winning, and there is a mall attached (Roppongi Hills) that has excellent luxury shopping. Great restaurants are both in the hotel and within five minutes walking distance - Jomon for Izakaya, Hassan for Shabu Shabu, and AFURI ramen.
