Reviews for Hotel New Otani Tokyo The Main

Excellence in Tokyo!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My husband and I had two stays (one at beginning of 3 weeks in Japan and one at the end) and we had a great experience at New Otani Main. There are many other newer hoppin' hotels in the city but this hotel had an old school charm and elegance that we appreciated and enjoyed. Our room was large and lovely with a beautiful view of the city. The staff was wonderful and kind and service was excellent. Beautiful shops within the hotel complex and the Japanese garden is absolutely gorgeous, especially at night! The hotel is on a hill w/ a vast amount of open space and was a nice retreat to return to after very busy days exploring Tokyo. We had just one main complaint... On our first night, we were woken up in the wee hours due to a raging pop up party on hotel grounds below our room. Lots of champagne bottles being uncorked and although it did look like a lot of fun and was entertaining to watch, it was rough on our very first night after a long flight from L.A. We would definitely return for another stay in the future! :)

Superb

Gorgeous hotel with a truly spectacular, expansive, and historic gardens. Myriad of delicious restaurants, easy access to public transportation, and attentive staff. Lovely tea ceremony as well. Well worth the return visit! Have stayed here for both business and pleasure.

Not worth it. Wouldn’t come back

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

The hotel is old. Bathrooms are old. People are not nice. If you are on the first floor and want to grab a taxi you have to go to the second floor and reserve it. You have to have a coupon for breakfast. It is not enough with your room card or name. People in the breakfast are not nice with customers. Breakfast is not good enough for price of the hotel

Good valued hotel that is well located

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

After much angst we finally settled on Hotel New Otani. Overall I thought it was good value and well located and very much enjoyed our stay. We had a very spacious room and enjoyed looking out onto greenery. It was very easy to get to trains, or use taxis. There are many great eating and bar options only 10 minutes walk away. The standard breakfast area was okay - the breakfast in the New Otani that you pay extra for is much better.

Huge disappointment with the swimming pool : way too expensive and ridiculous restriction on usage

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We chose this hotel specifically because it had a swimming pool. It was very important for us. First, you have to pay (and it's rather expensive) each time you enter the spa. Impossible to have a pass for the whole day for instance. Second, the pool seems to be large enough (5m x 15m if I recall correctly), but limited to 4 people ! And you have no way to know how many people there are, so you cannot plan anything. The result : we didn't use the pool at all... I've been to a large number of luxury hotels all over the world, on every continent. I have never experienced such a situation, never. Given the supposed level of this hotel, it is totally unacceptable.
