Reviews for Mandarin Oriental Tokyo

1/10

Not good. Had stayed before and enjoyed it enough to go back but it is really not good at the minute. Would not go back to this or any other Mandarin Oriental. The bar is nice but the food they served there was not and it closes at 11pm in a major city. 1/10

The Gold Standard in Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This was my fifth stay at the MOTYO. Absolutely nothing has changed since my first visit. The property, IMO, still represents the gold standard in hospitality. Due to an unforeseen circumstance, we ended up staying nine nights here, and the team here made sure we were so well taken care of given the unfortunate circumstances. The property, itself, is beautiful, comfortable and well located. Metro lines are easily accessible in the basement and a JR stop is two blocks away. I'm usually not a huge fan of hotel restaurants because I feel that there are so many better options in big cities, however the MOTYO definitely delivers with the F&B department. The weekend dim sum lunch at Sense is one to not miss. Breakfast is always a treat, and hope to be there on a morning when there are tea muffins! Again, it's the people who make the MOTYO. Service on all my stays has been exceptional. They do a great job in making the property feel like "home." We're looking forward to our return during the holidays!

Great hotel.

The Tokyo Mandarin Oriental has always been one of my favorite hotels and it’s always nice to see that after a little break from them that they are continuing to deliver a great product We had a short trip in Tokyo a few months ago and decided to stay here after having not been for a few years. The hotel itself is wonderful. The staff are always very friendly. It has a number of restaurant choices, all of which are quite good. It’s located in the proximity of Tokyo Station, although it is a little walk (maybe about 15-20 min) but you can take the metro which cuts the walk down to maybe 10 min. The check-in was not overwhelmingly quick. There were a number of people waiting, but once we got to the front, it was easy and relatively uneventful. The room was great. It was comfortable, and comparable to other similar hotels at this price point. My only complaint is, when compared to other hotels at the price point, they are starting to show their age a bit. Every one of my interactions with them were positive. Concierge was great. I’ll be going back again later this month.

Don’t care about brand / loyalty

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We booked the hotel for two nights at $1,200 a night. United unfortunately got us to Tokyo from NYC 20 hours late (flight diversion, etc). So we ended up staying only one night. The hotel refused to refund one night which was understandable given the policy and our rate, and is not the point of this review. I traveled with my daughter for whom it was her first time in Asia. I explained the situation to the front desk manager and requested a room upgrade one level up to make my daughter feel a bit better after a disappointing 34 hour trip to Tokyo and only one day there. They had rooms but refused to provide a free upgrade requesting (a discounted) rate difference despite the fact that we ended up paying for two nights while staying only one. Now this is how Mandarin is different from Four Seasons which is our go-to choice, who always go out of their way to build/ preserve brand loyalty. Mind you, the person I was dealing with was the manager of the front desk not just a line person. I wanted to meet with the GM to share this feedback but was told he was not around since it was a weekend. Other than that, the concierge lady (Japanese) was shockingly unaware of a few sites I asked her about, taken from a generic top 20 list of what to do in Tokyo—not the obvious ones like the Imperial Palace, but still major attractions. In addition her English and just general knowledge were unacceptable, e.g., she did not know the name of the original Japanese religion, Shinto.
