Old Town Valencia is just a 10-minute walk from Hospes Palau de la Mar, but chances are you’ll get distracted along the way. The hotel occupies prime real estate amid the boutiques of Sorní and Cirilo Amarós Streets, and the City of Arts and Sciences lies on the other side of Valencia’s favorite public garden. Inside, Palau de la Mar cultivates a Zen-like atmosphere with dark wood plank floors and stark white bathrooms (some have a freestanding tub under a skylight). The lush central courtyard houses a bar that specializes in wines from the area’s renowned vineyards.

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Comfortable beds, great amenities and particular mention and thanks to Vanessa, Nivaldo, Francis and Antonio and Laura. They were so helpful and understanding with our elderly mother and so we thoroughly appreciate.

This is an unfortunate situation as I think the staff try to be accommodating here but there were a lot of shortcomings. Firstly, I did book this hotel because compared to other 5 star hotels, it is much cheaper. In addition the location is very good and close to the old town. But you do get what you pay for and in my opinion, this property is nowhere near a 5 star standard, especially in terms of quality of service. We were given a room in the annex (Room 2). These are older rooms and have windows that face a courtyard. So you cannot open your drapes without people seeing inside your room. The courtyard is used by guests at various times in the day for meetings or smoking and you can hear talking from your room. In addition, I was given a handicap accessible room. I couldn't figure out why the set up of the bathroom was so strange and the toilet was in the same place as the shower. Unfortunately, we were checked in by an intern (we only found this out later). She gave us a room tour and told us how to use the AC and the phone. What she forgot to tell us is that there is a button on the top of the AC that you need to turn on first and you have to actually unlock the phone before you can dial out. Small things...maybe I should have known but definitely these details would not have been missed at most 5 star hotels (again, only dealt with after we complained that the room was not getting colder and the phone didn't work). In addition, the door from the main building to the annex slams shut every time it opens. So every time someone walks through the door you can hear a door slamming. We tried to take an afternoon nap but impossible with the housekeeping staff opening (ie slamming) the door every 20 seconds. I guess my beef with the hotel is that they were not proactive...they waited until there was an issue and then told you an explanation/excuse. We were told nothing could be done to move us out of room the first night as the hotel was full and the assignment of the rooms was random. I know someone has to get a lousy room but I guess I was unlucky. But I told them I don't believe I was the last one to book a room (which I booked over 3 months ago) or the last one to check in (I checked in around 6 pm). I would actully give my stay a 2 star but I will give it 3 star since the manager did respond to my complaints. They took off 25% off my bill for the first night and then moved me to a new room the 2nd night. The 2nd room was much quieter and newer. They said this was their renovated room. I was also told by the staff I had to book to use the spa/swimming facilities. I assumed that meant the spa (which consists of a swimming pool & 2 saunas) would be private. However, when we were given entrance, other people were there already. The entrance is the same as the gym and we were told by some staff 6 and some staff 10 people is the limit. But the sauna can really only seat a couple comfortably so we ended up go up to our rooms after around 10 minutes. Just not clear and lots of misunderstanding. We did not have a good meal at the restaurant but same type of thing. Not really organized and when something goes wrong, then they tell you the issue. Always seems like this hotel is backfiling. I do think they have be a bit less laid back with their service standard and the rooms/gym/sauna need renovations. It seems quite dated and not really worth the price.

We had a very nice stay here. This was actually our 3rd hotel in Valencia on our trip and by far the best. We booked a Dreamer Double Room, but I believe we got upgraded due to being Marriott members (not sure what level we are). It was a 10-minute walk to the Mestalla Stadium which is why we were here, but this is our favorite part of the town. Its also right next to a beautiful park and 5 minutes away from a nice eating market called Mercat La Boqueria (Central Market of Valencia). The room was spacious, the bathroom was large and very nice, the water pressure on the shower was fantastic. The wifi was a little spotty. The hotel staff was amazing! Overall a fantastic stay!

We had a pleasant two-night stay at Hospes Palau de la Mar, but I wouldn’t consider it a five-star hotel—more like a four-star by European standards. The location was decent, about a 10-minute walk from the city center. While not exactly central, it was still convenient. We also walked to the Oceanogràfic aquarium and the Science Museum through a park, which took about 30 minutes. It was a nice walk, though a bit long. The hotel has a spa with a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and a small gym. However, access to the spa and gym was restricted by a locked gate requiring a PIN, meaning you had to ask reception each time to unlock it. At one point, I couldn’t open the gate to leave, and if not for a passerby heading to the restroom, I might have been stuck there for a while. This system felt inconvenient and inflexible. We booked a double room with a package that included welcome drinks, a bottle of cava in the room, a dinner for two, and a 30-minute massage for two. It was a good deal overall. However, when making the reservation, I specifically requested a quiet room away from the elevator on an upper floor. Ironically, we were assigned a room right next to the elevator on the lowest floor (1st). While I understand availability may have been limited, the staff didn’t acknowledge or explain this during check-in. Additionally, we had reserved dinner for 8 PM, but the staff booked us for 9 PM instead. The room itself was quite dark, with limited natural light, and the black-themed furniture made it feel even darker. Our package also included breakfast, but the selection was very limited. On the positive side, the staff were polite throughout our stay.

Super hotel, really well-placed for visiting the local sites and just beside the Turia Gardens. We easily walked into central Valencia and through the gardens to the City of Arts and Sciences. We had a large comfy room with a huge bathroom on the ground floor by the outside dining area. It felt a bit dark and smelt a little musty when we first arrived but it was fine. The hotel breakfast was one of the nicest I have had for years, with a wide range of delicious things, including fresh orange juice and scrambled egg cooked to order. Staff were charming and helpful. My husband and I had very nice spa treatments but the water in the small indoor pool needed better cleaning/filtering as there seemed to be a large amount of debris (!) floating around in the illuminated water.
