Reviews for Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver

Elegant and Exceptional

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I don't think I can recall a luxury hotel stay that was as comfortable and luxurious as our time at the Shangri-La Vancouver. The hotel is almost understated when you consider that the larger-than-life Paradox Hotel is just across the street with, and the Shang's driveway is almost hidden, but understatements cease there. The Shangri-La is, in a word, elegant, in every way imaginable. Another word I would use is exceptional. From the moment we arrived, on a very rainy day, every single member of the staff was prepared, willing, and cheerful in making our stay as comfortable as humanly possible. The hotel has 15 floors, an excellent spa and wellness level, a Michelin recommended restaurant (Carlino), and 119 beautifully appointed rooms and, somehow, impossibly, the staff made us feel like we were the only guests there. Even if none of the above amenities were on premises, the Shangri-La Vancouver is second to none in hospitality and what's remarkable is that it doesn't take any over-the-top gestures of lavishness to accomplish this. All it took was simple and attentive service with a commitment from each member of the staff to be helpful in fulfilling what are really just basic human needs that anyone would hope to have undertaken in any hospitality property. Whether it was front desk, concierge, room staff, spa and wellness, bellhop, host - everyone in this hotel just knew how to make the experience dignified elegant, and yet humble - If it's raining outside, there's an umbrella and, when you return, some nice ginger and honey tea. Do you need a good night's sleep? Here's a selection of pillows of varying firmness to help with that. Are you hungry after a long day's travel before dinner? There's fresh fruit and a note from the hotel manager to welcome you in your room and the hotel concierge is already texting you with places to eat nearby, ready to make reservations. Are you thirsty? Here's water. None of the above seem like anything particularly over the top or astounding, and one would think any hotel should have staff as attentive to such simple hospitality, but what makes this hotel a 5-star luxury experience is that everyone at the Shangri-La cares and appears to love what they do because it seems that the golden rule is in the design and very DNA of everything and everyone having to do with this hotel. We will never forget our stay and we will be back.

Fantastic Service and Memorable Stay

Our room wasn’t ready at 3 PM, but the staff more than made up for it by upgrading us and waiving the valet parking fee. The front desk manager even followed up via text to see if we needed anything else, which was a nice touch. We asked for extra towels and plates, and the service staff delivered them in under 20 minutes, super quick! Every single staff member we interacted with was so friendly, always smiling and chatting with us. It really felt like they genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable. Overall, it was an absolutely wonderful experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Extraordinary experience

After many years of global travel for business and leisure, I can confidently say that the Shangri-La in Vancouver, Canada, is one of the finest hotels I have encountered. From the warm welcome by concierge Charles to the delightful candy on our pillows and the impeccable luggage service, every detail contributed to an extraordinary experience. The stunning views from the 15th floor complemented the outstanding service, making it a perfect destination for anyone seeking indulgence and luxury. I wholeheartedly recommend this remarkable establishment for an unparalleled stay.

As good as I remembered .

Stayed two nights while in Vancouver for meetings. I usually stay at another hotel that is closer to my office but it was booked so I went back to this hotel after a few years away. It was as good as I remembered. The staff are top notch and they offer nice touches in the room making you feel welcome. Carlino restaurant in the hotel is excellent with great service. The rooms while a bit dated are immaculate and extremely comfortable. My room had a spacious balcony and a separate seating area that was like being at home. The bathroom is beautiful and has complimentary products that are very useful. This is a great luxury option for business and leisure travellers in a city that has limited options for high end hotels with the closing of the Four Seasons a few years ago.

Underwhelming property, needs updating

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Compared to other Shangri-La properties this hotel was disappointing. The hotel is the first 15 stories of a 61 story building. So even though it is described as a "tower in the sky" there is no view from a hotel room as you are surrounded by other high rise buildings. Check-in is in the basement and very small and dark - picture attached. The room furnishing was dated and should be replaced. My room on the 15th floor had mis-matched and stained carpeting. Food quality and service at the one restaurant was not acceptable. Concierge service was the highlight with excellent dining recommendations made by Leah and Cecil. Front Office manager was gracious and spoke to me at checkout. Good central location for downtown access but there are other hotels with better ambiance in the area too.
