Reviews for Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill

It was not a good experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

The hotel is currently going through renovation and it would have been nice to have someone notify me when booking the hotel, especially since I called the hotel and I opened a Hyatt credit card just for this stay. In addition, again I'm sure it will be better after the renovation, but the beds in the room were awful. It was like a sinkhole! It was uncomfortable and unfortunately both beds in the room were like that. I wished they did not assign that room to any guests. The valet service was rude, accusing me that I made him write a new ticket because I asked if the $60 fee was per night. He assumed we were checking in, but we had already checked in. At the "Starbucks" I had asked about one of the treats if it had coconut since my daughter is allergic to coconuts and they couldn't tell me. I looked at my Starbucks app to see what the ingredients were and they said it's not the same. Everything was very sketchy! And I know that I received an email regarding the renovation when it was time to travel, but it would have been nice if it was earlier than that so I could have opted for another hotel. But honestly, I think the renovation bothered me the least. It was everything else and so no, I would probably not recommend this hotel to anyone. In addition, we probably won't be back with the way we were treated.

Terrible experience, construction

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Terrible hotel. Totally unacceptable construction mess, pool is closed, housekeeping barged into the room at 8am when we were sleeping. Charges resort fees and destination fees when no amenities are available. Room is basic and tiny with a double bed. Horrible

350 dollars a night for this?

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Would not recommend. Construction meant loud noise and no hot water. Didn’t have access to the amenities but paid full price ? Pillows were some of the worst I’ve ever felt. Hotel feels outdated. Some of the workers are so nice and made the experience better. But overall could not recommend especially at the price point.

Stay away from this hotel until construction is done

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Worst hotel experience of my life. DO NOT STAY HERE UNTIL CONSTRUCTION IS DONE!!!!!!!!!! I have NEVER even done a review before and I think people are way to picky about hotels, restaurants, etc. these days. I have worked in the service industry since I was 16 and own a restaurant, and hate to complain. BUT - I also believe you should get what you pay for in any venue. I paid the same price as everyone else at our conference and the 3 hotel rooms that I collectively paid $10,000 for were directly under the construction. We had construction noise directly above our heads from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. every single weekday. The noise starting at 8 a.m. was loud and annoying, but nothing compared to the jack hammering noise that started at 11 a.m. and usually went until 3 p.m. The vibrations and noise were SO loud that I could not even hear loud knocking at my door. I had to check my phone to see texts alerting my to students at my door. I am an attorney and was trying to complete an appellate brief, in my hotel room, but I could not even think due to a decibel of jack hammering noise that probably legally required that I be wearing ear plugs to protect my ears. Construct dust came into our room and made it smell stale and like a home full of mold. The water was shut off for 5 hours one day, which we were warned about and were told we would be given notice the day before. But the day they shut the water off, we received a flyer under our door at 3:45 a.m. (yes - I was up because I had to work, partially due to an inability to work during the day due to jack hammering), warning us the water would be shut off "TOMORROW" with an "INSERT DATE" at the top of the flyer where a date should be. But, they shut off the water that day. When I called to complain about the lack of notice and ask where we could access a usable toilet, the operator did not even apologize, and offered to transfer me to the engineers, but then hung up/disconnected me. I called again during the day, twice, to ask for more towels, and no one ever answered the phone. It just rang and rang. We were there for a legal competition conference and in our rooms most of the day. We were not tourists out sightseeing all day, and we needed to use our rooms for competition prep, work for me, and homework for my law students. The hot water was also messed up the whole time. It would start cold, and then heat up to blazing hot - but the temperature could not be adjusted. The water literally would scald my skin and I had to stay out of the stream to shampoo, shave, etc. and then jump in to rinse off quickly. One of my student's room had a sink that would not turn off. The gym was basically defunct and my athletic students could not use it. While we we warned about "construction", I assumed this was an inconvenience meaning some things would not be as accessible, we would hear minor noises, or see construction zones that would make the hotel less visually appealing. No one told us our rooms would BE the construction zone. I very nicely explained my frustrations to a very nice manager, and she offered to comp our breakfast that day. But, it was not comped and is still on my bill. I will note that the front desk staff, restaurant staff, and concierge were all very nice and responsive. But, I cannot believe that we were given rooms in a full construction zone without warning, a choice, or an offer to get a significant reduction on our bill. When we checked in, we should have been told: "We have discounted rooms at 80% off that will have lots of noise, water issues, etc. Do you want those rooms, or the full price with only occasional, light construction noises?" I have stayed at this hotel at least 6 times and had a great experience each time previously. By advice is to STAY AWAY from this hotel until construction is done, or if you get an insane discount for the absolutely ridiculous things you will endure.

Perfect location and friendly staff! My favorite place to stay in DC whether visiting for business for personal reasons. Highly recommend staying at this facility which is also conveniently located near the DCA airport - - just a few minutes away!
