What a lovely surprise to have such a huge and comfortable room after our New York visit. The staff are very helpful and the room well equipped. Beds are extremely comfortable. The floors are all carpeted and the noise is thus kept to a minimum. The bathroom could do with some renovation, the fittings are a bit rusty but all in working order. We were lucky to be allowed a room higher up. Location is ideal for venturing into Downtown Washington as there are 3 metro lines from Foggy Bottom taking you into town. I would certainly come back to this hotel if I ever visited Washington again. Thank you for making us feel at home here.

Stayed at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel for a week at the beginning of November. Meant to write this review a lot earlier than now but here it is. As the title says there is one big hidden charge at this property. That is the $400,00 convenience fee that guests are told about upon check-in. This is annoying for two reasons. First, it is not indicated anywhere on the hotel website. Second this amount seems highly exorbitant and IMHO a lure to try to make their guests spend more money at a hotel which is expensive to begin with. Part of this was deducted for a breakfast I had at the property. I was informed me that the remainder would be credited back to the card I used for the reservation - however, checking my statements I do not see that amount listed as a credit. Don't know if the hotel has done this or if there is an oversight somewhere along the line. Also know that as a member of Historic Hotels of America (a division of the National Trust for Historic Preservation) the hotel incorporates a $20.00 per night fee for the property's upkeep in the nightly rate This is stated on the website and I had no problem with this unlike the convenience fee. The convenience fee is unfortunate because the hotel itself is a beautiful and well-kept property. It is a medium sized hotel where one does not feel overwhelmed or crowded - feels very tranquil and homey. My room faced the street on the side of the hotel - very quiet with a comfortable king bed and was spacious with enough room to move around. In an alcove right off the entrance is the sink with all the essential high quality toiletries, towels and a hairdryer. The shower and toilet are separated from this by a door. The room itself has a recliner and a small sofa a the foot of the bed, both good for relaxing after a long day of activity. The dresser drawer is very maple with plenty of space for clothing and incorporates a min-fridge (great for storing snacks and drinks) and a coffeemaker. The flatscreen TV on the dresser is huge but could have used more channels (no music channels - surprising!). The closet however was rather small even for one person (I did not overpack by any means). For two people this would be a challenge. There is a desk in the corner of the room with two outlets for plugging in devices. There was a radio in the room but unfortunately it did not work - had to listen to music through my phone. I did not use the bar (did not need to) and had just the one breakfast in the restaurant. Did not have dinner there as there are many choices in the area with more reasonable prices (though still not cheap) so just used the hotel to sleep and recharge periodically during my stay. There is complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby every morning until 11:00 - this was a welcome touch. You are allowed to bring your beverage into the restaurant. The location is in my opinion a big draw of this hotel. It is a roughly a 10 minute walk to the Foggy Bottom Metro station from where you can travel all over DC either with one train or am easy connection (the Metro is superb!). Make a left outside the door and you are in Georgetown proper in around five minutes. The (in)famous Exorcist steps and Georgetown University are a few minutes father away. The Kennedy Center is an approximately 15 minute walk from the hotel in the opposite direction via Virginia Avenue (there is also a shuttle at the Foggy Bottom station). George Washington University and its large hospital dominate the area so there is plenty of foot traffic both day and night making this a safe neighborhood to walk around - just exercise the usual precautions and you will be fine. Being on Pennsylvania Avenue the White House is about 20 minutes away on foot. There is a bus on the corner to the right of the hotel which goes downtown - the same number bus across the street goes through Georgetown to the National Cathedral, a must see! In Georgetown and Foggy Bottom there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from as well as a Whole Foods and 7-11 nearby. Don't remember the name but there is also a small deli two doors down from the hotel with a few window stools where you can have good sandwiches all day long and pick up snacks and beverages including wine (it is open until around 8:00 P.M. For those who need religion on your trip there is St. Stephen Catholic church half a block to the left though the Cathedral of St. Matthew on Rhode island Avenue is another must see and an LDS (Mormon) meetinghouse just past St, Stephen just up the street. The hotel staff is very accommodating and professional and take the time to answer any questions you may have though there is occasional congestion so patience is sometimes needed but they are trying their best. There are computers in the lobby for those who may need them and there is plenty of seating with a TV to relax and or recharge. So to sum up this is a well run, relaxing and elegant hotel in a prime and beautiful location with excellent transport options and great for exploring on foot. I would like to consider this hotel for future visits to DC - but that convenience fee would frankly make me think twice.

Beautiful hotel with very nice staff and valet attendants. The room was very nice, clean, and had a comfortable bed and pillows. I enjoyed the LaVazza coffee maker located in the room! I was only there for one night, but it made for a nice get away.

I recently stayed at this delightful hotel in the prime location and was impressed by its inviting atmosphere and friendly staff. The modern, upscale decor creates a comfortable and stylish ambiance, making it an ideal retreat. The spacious, well-appointed rooms and friendly staff further enhanced my experience. A unique touch was the hot cider counter in the lobby during chilly weather, adding a cozy, personal flair. Overall, excellent value—I highly recommend this hotel for a memorable stay.
