Reviews for The Royal Sonesta Washington DC Capitol Hill

Callous place - do not stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This is the second time I have tried to write this review. I was due to stay at this hotel in July this year but my mum sadly passed away two days before the trip. In the circumstances I asked for a refund or for the trip to be extended but both were declined. I really think they had the opportunity to be kind and demonstrate empathy but instead took a callous approach and I hope they do not treat anyone else like this in the future or sufefr like we have as a family.

Clean attractive rooms, secure hallways and great front desk treatment. Staci at the front desk is one of numerous exceptional people at the front desk.

Royal Sonesta was a hit!

Had a great experience at the Royal Sonesta. The room was very big for a city room. Bedding was fantastic. Bathroom also large. Nice bathrobes in closet. The entire building was clean. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Location was great. I was able to walk to most sites. Quiet area.

Royal Sonesta Love!

We had a great time. The hotel is lovely. The staff is excellent. Dawit was especially helpful. This young man helped us with every request. Thank you Dawit! If you get a chance check out the hotel restaurant. The mussels and onion soup are exceptional.

Lovely staff, spacious room, some hiccups

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The Royal Sonesta was the perfect hotel for our mother daughter trip! It’s perfectly located within 10 minutes of walking from union station, and has a beautiful lobby with great natural light. We arrived way before check-in time so we weren’t expecting our room to be ready, but Dayshea at the front desk gave us a pleasant surprise by upgrading us and letting us check in early. She was also super sweet with my daughter, answering all her questions and letting her choose her favorite animals for our room cards. Our double queen room was super spacious with huge windows facing the street, though you couldn’t hear any noise. The decor was whimsical and the bedding was clean. There was plenty of storage space and amenities, they had a regular iron plus a steam iron, and even a souvenir water bottle for us to bring home. We had our dinner at the hotel restaurant, Du Jour, whose staff were also super friendly and helpful. The food was a bit salty and heavy for my taste but my daughter loved her beef bourguignon and macaroni au gratin. Now on to the negatives: While the room appeared generally quite clean, I was surprised to find pieces of hair on the walls of the walk-in shower, a few longer pieces and a few very short ones. The shower stall itself was quite clean so perhaps the hair came from rags the cleaning staff used. I was also repulsed by the tiny pieces of hair stuck on one of the bathrobes. The robe definitely looked like it was freshly laundered so it was a mystery why there was hair stuck on it. Additionally, the water pressure of the shower was quite weak, definitely not what you’d expect at a four star hotel with royalty as its theme. Finally, I was woken up multiple times by noises coming from neighbors closing their doors, I had to get my ear plugs out. I’m a light sleeper so it’s probably not an issue for everyone, my daughter had no problem sleeping through the night. But it was definitely noticeable. I wish their door had the same level of noise cancellation as their windows. Overall though we still had a lovely stay, thanks to the friendly staff. Hope some of the issues can be fixed by our next visit!
