Eskedar at the front desk elevated service by welcoming us and providing information on the services available in-house. She also took the time to explain to us what upgrade services were available and showed us the different rooms types available on property. She was extremely knowledgeable and her warm welcome and her patience made the world of difference. She elevated her approach to customer service and represented the Salamader in exemplary fashion.

There was a lot of hype behind this hotel so I checked it out on a last-minute trip. The staff was excellent and super friendly/helpful. Beyond that, though, it was really just ok for me compared to other luxury hotels in DC and generally. It definitely still feels like it has newly opened where staff is unsure about details for services, certain areas are not yet usable (e.g., Executive Lounge), etc. I did not go to the restaurants but had room service and the food was not very good. The food was extremely salty in the meals I had, and very expensive even compared to other luxury hotels. The location was central to many places of interest for tourists and I did like walking to the wharf nearby. But, I don’t think I would stay there again.

Went with my parents (in their 80s) and husband for a night away before Christmas. Valet and Check in were amazing. Really lovely people at the front desk. Rooms were ready. My parents room had an amazing view of the memorial - so they were thrilled. Our room looked at the other part of the hotel - but that was ok. Definitely not a deal breaker. Winter afternoon tea was FABULOUS. Seriously the staff in the Lounge are just so lovely. And the food was amazing. After tea we took a walk up to the museums - walk is about 10 mins. Definitely a great location. Rooms are nice. Old. But clean. The pillows are not good. Not good. But i guess most hotel pillows aren’t. Dinner at the Lounge was also fabulous. The food and cocktails - and staff - was definitely worth the price. My parents and I then headed to the pool - where my mum unfortunately stubbed her toe on a lounge chair (she actually broke the baby toe in two places) but we didn’t know that at the time. Breakfast the next morning was a definite disappointment. It was included in our package from AMEX - thank goodness - cause there’s no way I would pay for it. The food across the buffet was cold. Someone had not turned on the buffet warmers so all the cooked food was cold. So when we pointed it out it seemed a little “bothersome” to the staff. One of the gals did come and turn up the heat - on the already cold food. So my husband had to go and tell her that no - you can’t reheat food that way - and perhaps they needed to replace the buffet. Keep in mind as this was happening - people were loading up on the cold food and then realizing it. Finally a manager came out and said oh yes - this all needs replacing and they came and took the dishes away. So that was a bit of a bummer. I ended up running across the street to Starbucks to get food since nobody ate. Would i stay again? Yes - mostly for the staff at the lounge. Again. Just superb.

We recently visited the Salamander DC to help a disabled friend find a suitable room, and we were fortunate to be assisted by Charles. From the moment we arrived, Charles demonstrated exceptional kindness, professionalism, and care. He took the time to show us several rooms, carefully considering accessibility and comfort for our friend’s specific needs. Charles was incredibly patient, attentive, and thoughtful in his recommendations, ensuring that every detail was addressed. His genuine kindness and willingness to go above and beyond made what could have been a stressful process smooth and even enjoyable. It’s rare to encounter someone as compassionate and dedicated as Charles. His customer service truly reflects the excellence of the Salamander DC. Thank you, Charles, for making such a positive impact on our experience!

Galila at the front desk was super helpful! I had to have an extra late check-out due to some issues on the travel end and she was super understanding and not only allowed me a check-out but an extra late check out while I resolved my travel issue headed home. I was with my little Frenchie puppy and the hotel is super pet-friendly. They brought a doggie bed, feeding and water bowls and when I wanted to have a bite downstairs the lobby area has little couches and nooks where there will be full-restaurant service while not having to leave your pup in the room. The bathroom in the room is massive. The tubs are INSANELY huge and the aesthetic is fantastic and refreshed. There's an outdoor area to the downstairs bar if you want to face the water and eat with your pup!

Not up to the standards of our stay at previously booked luxury link hotels. No in room coffee bar, no mini bar, blamed everything on Covid, and they were a new hotel, we would not stay there again. Definitely not 5 star, location good, no ice maker you had to call for it.
