Staycation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Very family friendly. We went with our family for a staycation. Suite upgrade with our Amex. All the staff were kind and courteous, doing everything to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Kids enjoyed the indoor heated pool. Overall we enjoyed ourselves but want the hotel to consider a few things to improve on. 1.Overpriced buffet without anything really spectacular. For a hotel of this caliber, we expected more. It was good, but not great. Would have loved to see better selection of fresh fruits such as berries (there was literally a 10inch plate of fruit for the entire buffet that was being refilled), hard boiled eggs, French toast, breakfast specialties/pastries (muffins were dry and tasteless). 2. No blackout curtains. We were excited to enjoy the comfy bed, but upset to wake up so early due to the light peering in. Apparently the front desk told me they are working on this. 3. Gym equipment has an option to connect to streaming channels, but internet was not connected on any of them. Minor detail, but want the hotel to know. Special shout out for the amazing service from Mara at the front desk and Olga in housekeeping.

Bad room, great amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review because I love the Salamander. Unfortunately this visit became memorable for the wrong reasons. After arriving at 10A for spa appointments and dropping my luggage, when I went to get my key at 5P my room was not ready due to engineering “fixing the door”. In retrospect a clue that this room probably should not have been given to a guest. Got a key at 6P as I was heading in to dine. Got into my room at 10P. Blinds didn’t close so a call to engineering to fix that. TV wouldn’t turn off (broken remote). No conditioner in the bottle for my shower the next morning. The light above the closet constantly flickered (bad dimmer). And then as I was watching TV while getting ready for brunch, the hotel checked me out of my room at 8:30A and I had to call the desk to get that corrected. These are all annoying things that should NEVER happen at a 5-star resort. But worst was that I was offered COFFEE as a gesture - no reduction in the bill, no services comp’d - COFFEE. I already had coffee in the room. Housekeeping staff needs improved training to ensure all aspects of the room are in full working order and the front desk staff should have a more appropriate response than coffee when a guest has this experience. But the upside was that all other service was amazing, especially the spa, restaurant (Dogon-HIGHLY RECOMMEND), and lobby lounge/bar.

Value and Luxury in Washington DC

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

A luxurious gem in the middle of DC. The location is great. You are less than a handful of blocks walking to the mall and museums. The building is regal. The doormen are friendly, helpful, professional, and knowledgeable - a great bunch of people. Inside, the opulent, stylish lobby and lounge is happening - you feel like you are entering a party where everyone has been waiting for you to arrive. The people working the front desk could not be any more personable. Exactly what you want in a hotel. The food in the lounge is delicious, the menu has something for every craving light or full meal. The fancy restaurant DogonDC is a gourmet experience. The rooms are luxurious, comfortable, and clean. The view from the window of our room was of the Jefferson Memorial - gorgeous and inspiring night and day. All in all, great value, great people, a great experience. And as I said at the outset, it's close to all the museums and sites.

No mini bar

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Here now, and upon checking in checked the mini bar, and it was completely empty. Called guest services, and was told that only the suite guests get a mini bar. That's odd. They did say that they would stock it but that was three hours ago and nobody came. I've never heard of only suites get a mini bar, particularly since there is a QR code in the room to scan for the prices of the non-existent mini bar! Oh well.

Not up to the standards of our stay at previously booked luxury link hotels. No in room coffee bar, no mini bar, blamed everything on Covid, and they were a new hotel, we would not stay there again. Definitely not 5 star, location good, no ice maker you had to call for it.
