The Swag

This was our 4th time to the Swag. We have visited in November, June and now December. Anytime is a great time. We re-booked for October 2025. The last 2 trips we took others with us and want as many people to experience this special place. In addition the setting, The Swag's designation as a Relais Chateau property is well earned. The staff, service and food do not disappoint! Go and visit. Sit by the fire with a book or new friends, go for as many hikes as possible, meet new friends over cocktails, enjoy the view from the infinity hot tub and enjoy the challenging puzzles (also by a fire). You will be happy you went!

The trip was a 12 year anniversary celebration! It was a spur of the moment decision to call the Swag to see if they could accommodate us and they could! We were able to stay in the Hummingbird cabin which was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Everything was amazing from the beautiful room, the incredible location, the amazing food, and the best staff! Thanks for a lovely time!

OUTSTANDING and GORGEOUS! The view is breathtaking and so peaceful. The Service is “Top Notch” and incredibly Caring. The rooms are so cozy and perfect for the Mountain View! They have walking trails, horseback riding and more. We have been there Several times and enjoy it more every time we visit!

The Swag gets better every year! We’ve been going for a long time and love returning to the log cabin retreats sitting atop a North Carolina mountain bordering the Great Smokies. The food and service are excellent. Especially like the steam showers in the comfortable rooms, extravagant picnics on Gooseberry Knob, the bluegrass bands sometimes playing on the dog trot with horsdoevres before dinner, and my husband’s fave the huge hot tub pool overlooking Mount Pisgah and Cold Mountain. Doug and Kathy Peters were our resident hiking leaders, music storytellers, this time—-such fun. The lodge is expensive but so unique and well thought out and sourced that it’s still good value. We always look forward to seeing Will, the general manager, and head housekeeper Brenda, who take such good care of us. Relaxation and pampering, a little hiking in fresh mountain air, cool evenings watching the moon and stars come out—-always a pleasure.

Wow. Wow. Wow. We have hiked by this place several times since we live in Asheville. We finally had a chance to stay here and are so glad we did! The attention to detail was amazing as were the little extras throughout our stay. The staff is the best we’ve experienced in their kindness, enthusiasm, and attentiveness. The food was incredible and creatively curated. The owners have recently purchased the nearby Cataloochee Ranch so if you can’t get into The Swag check out their beautiful sister property.
