Reviews for Duxton Hotel

Very Comfortable but you need to change how “Security Bond” payments are processed.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Had 2 x nights in Perth and stayed here. Heard the building was once the local WA Inland Revenue Office, but although such office like in its appearance, is certainly rather nice inside! Room was spacious and comfortable with a view out across to the North of the city. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food (we only had breakfast and sadly had to forgo this on our last day due to flight commitments) was good. In my one month in Australia I have seen a pork sausage only offered twice at a hotel, but was wondering why? I really am not over keen on chicken sausages unfortunately. I noted previous comment about “Security Bond” payments. I totally get the need for these and have obviously paid them before. However what concerns me is that instead of being held in a “Pending” payment as most hotels do without activating the charge, the full payment was directly taken from my account and subsequently refunded within 24 x hours of departure. However what is frustrating, when taking into account AUD and GBP conversion rates I had £98:43 taken out but only refunded £97:19 which means I was £1:24 out of pocket. Not a big deal, but annoying and a bit unfair. Could the Duxton please consider as with other hotels, of just holding the “Bond” on file and “Cancelling” it rather than putting it through and refunding?

Worst wifi in the world

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Worst wifi I have ever experienced at any hotel ever. So bad I had to turn it off to be able to load this page. Have to come here often for work, and it’s a common problem to the point of being unusable and for some reason they won’t fix it. Even mobile data gets poor reception in their rooms, it’s a total disaster.

Generic 5-star - though lifted by the exceptional staff.

Staff unfailingly courteous and helpful which makes for a pleasant stay. We landed in Perth at 7.30 am. Even though check-in was officially 3.00 PM, the receptionist got us into our room at 10.30 AM. Greatly appreciated after a a red-eye flight and a three hour time difference. Beds and bathrooms are great though the rooms themselves are a little pokey. Very clean. A few quibbles though (1) The hotel takes $100 per night per room which is not advised at the time of booking. Not a pre-auth but an actual EFT or credit card payment! This payment is not refunded for 4 or 5 days after checkout for which the hotel conveniently blames the bank. (We booked three rooms for three nights which meant they had $900 of our money for between 7 and 9 days. Cute - and a nice little earner for the bank and/or the hotel.) (2) Wooden RFID room keycards constantly lose their frequency and have to be re-striped at reception. (3) Room service food delivered lukewarm - at best. (Location is fine except for a distinct lack of cafes etc near by. Not the hotel’s fault, of course, but not a lot of choice.) (4) Pool (unheated) deck is a bit austere and windy. All in all - pretty generic 5-star made special by the staff.

Never stay anywhere else in Perth

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My wife and I come up to Perth every now and then from Bunbury and have stayed at the Duxton for the past couple of years. Consistently a great standard of service, right in the heart of the CBD and overlooking the river and the added optional bonus of valet parking (a must for overnight stays in Perth). This stay we opted for a Junior Suite with access to the Club Lounge - had something to compare this to as we’d recently stayed in the Intercontinental in Saigon (HCMC) - not quite on a par with the Intercontinental but really close with little separating them. The view over the Swan River from the Club Lounge though beats Saigon city views hands down. Highly recommend the Duxton when staying in Perth and we won’t stay anywhere else. Great work guys 👍

There is an issue with the room key.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

There is an issue with the room key at this hotel. It frequently errors, leaving me unable to enter the room and having to wait outside, yet I didn’t receive any apology. The elevator also requires a room key, but it often malfunctioned, which was very inconvenient.
