About the Hotel

Known as the Land of Eternal Spring for its exceptionally mild climate, China’s southwestern Yunnan province is bordered by Tibet, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam and is famed for limestone plateaus, snow-capped peaks and rushing rivers. Arranged around calm courtyards, Amandayan’s dwellings are imbued with the clean lines and the architectural aesthetic of the indigenous Nakhi people using locally sourced materials, including Yunnan pine and elm from Dong Bei. Panoramic views from Amandayan take in a range of opportunities for exploration: the centuries-old UNESCO World Heritage-protected Old Town, the patchwork fields of the surrounding villages, and the snow-capped summits of the peaks that define the horizon. A remarkable combination of cultural and natural wonders, Lijiang marks the changing seasons with a number of lively Nakhi festivals.

Reviews for Amandayan

Beautiful hotel, staff went above and beyond

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed July 17, 2021

The setting of this hotel and the area around it is absolutely stunning. The architecture of the rooms blends Chinese design with Aman standards, and makes for the perfect blend. When we went, there was no GM but the staff were still very well organized, willing to attend to all our needs and fixed all our complaints very very quickly. I cannot even express how impressed we were at how above and beyond the staff went for us. A very memorable experience!

Tranquil oasis in Lijiang

We had a fantastic three nights at Amandyan to start our Yunnan holiday. We were primarily looking to relax and were able to do just that - the rooms were comfortable, pool relaxing and the service top notch. The hotel is located off of Old Town Lijiang - about a 5 minute walk down the hill. We found the food at the restaurant very good. The concierge was very helpful and will arrange day trips. They connected with us by wechat upon arrival, so making requests and communicating was quite easy. We ate at the restaurant for most meals and found the service and food quite good - they would even save a table for us with a good view :). One night it was a bit busy and things suffered a little, but not a big deal. Our package included a day trip and they let us just trade it in for a driver and car for the afternoon so that we could explore on our own. When my husband asked about buying one of the hats in the room (realizing he forgot one), they even offered for him to just keep it. Loved it and looking forward to going back soon!

Superlative Aman Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed December 15, 2019

We are among the Aman junkie tribe, but whether you are a fellow tribesperson or not, the Amandayan is worth going out of your way for. It is in a fantastic location right next to the ancient and incredibly beautiful, charming city of Lijiang. The facilities are designed to be in keeping with the Lijiang architecture, while also being elegant, luxurious and quiet. The staff are excellent and have a delightful new general manager. The food and restaurant or also top notch. The Amandayan ranks up there with the best that the Aman experience offers.

We visited the Aman Hotel on Saturday the second of November 2019 to spend the afternoon having high tea on their terrace overlooking the Old Town of Lijiang. We had heard the view was exceptional and the service without comparison. We were not disappointed. We loved the ambience of the hotel and had a memorable and relaxing afternoon. The service was indeed exceptional and Marvel the manager made our time there so enjoyable by ensuring that everything we needed was provided promptly and with a smile. She also gave us a tour of the hotel and when we left we vowed to return again in future to eat at the restaurant or perhaps stay for a while.

We are big fans of the Aman chain of hotels worldwide and have stayed in many..... You arrive in Lijiang and drive up a small driveway out of the town. Not a grand entrance at all like those in the rest of the world ... A very warm welcome by lovely staff and you enter a rather cold large room which turns out to be where you eat breakfast. The hotel was very empty and you could see very quickly that what was a rather grand building is in need of a lot of up keep. It almost felt that it’s owners had forgotten it existed. However after the door knob fell off in my hand and the lock on the door broke ,we began to settle in to this quaint environment and the employees could not do enough for us .... The rooms were confortable and clean. Good bedding and we were in an inner courtyard of three adjoining room and heard little noise from the town. The room brochures and guides were stained with the passing of time and never changed..... but the night time gift was delivered as in other Aman hotels. The main issue regarding this hotel was cold. We were there in a very wet period and went on our first night to one and only Chinese restaurant. No one was in the dining room and it was so cold we asked if the door could be closed but apparently not ,as it is Chinese tradition to keep it open, despite the torrential rain. We had a baby and so ended up eating all our evening meals in our rooms and breakfast needed to use blankets on offer to eat in the entrance hall ....Anyone going here needs to go prepared ... The Spa was enjoyed by my children ,who had traditional massages. .... . I would recommend this hotel based on the friendly staff but be aware it is not like what you might be used to in this chain of hotels. We had a fantastic guide through our travel agent Wild China which made our trip to this amazing place extra special.
