Water leaked on our heads in the very small bathroom. It was only fixed temporarily and caused 2 out of our 4 nights to be exhausting. The real issue however was the staffs cheerful attitude that getting back to our room after dinner the first night to 2 inches of water wasn't any big deal. Maintenance wanted to leave the huge garbage can sitting on the toilet till the next day. No offer was made to move us and by the third night the floor was soaked again. Checking out I was told they "made a note not to put me in the same room next year" After seeing my face at the nerve the manager came out and took $150 off our bar bill. Nothing about this hotel was as good as previous year. Cleaning minimal, sheets not changed, cheap toilet paper and tissues.

Beautifully designed hotel, spacious room and shower bathroom, and includes breakfast on the veranda or dining room. Another great plus are the beach chairs and towels provided for you on the beach, so need to lug your own. The staff is professional but aloof. Was surprised by the $43 plus for “resort fees” especially when it rained so no beach for us ! No onsite parking so had to use their valet parking ( surprised by that also - a good thing, no charge) . The downside are the steps, as there is no elevator in this 61 room hotel. These were a problem for my friend, as the stairs are quite steep. … so be advised . Cape May has become so crowded with tourists it feels like NYC sidewalks walking around. And this hotel was so busy it was not the quiet retreat I had wanted

The Virginia Hotel is classy and cozy. The service is wonderful. The public spaces in the lounge and porch are perfect. Cocktails are superb. Cannot say the same about the food at the Ebbit Room, which was disappointing based on previous experience. Would recommend patronizing a BYOB such as Peter Shields, which has never disappointed. If breakfast not included, would be worth the splurge to order and have delivered to your room. The food is imaginative, satisfying and serviced elegantly on a silver platter w/ white cloth.

We headed to Cape May for St Patrick’s day weekend and had a blast. Stayed at the Virginia’s Pink Cottage and we were delighted with the ocean view and comfortable king bed. Also enjoyed reading on the front porch and in common living room. Enjoyed bag pipes at polar plunge and making new friends in Irish pub. Concierge recommended dinner at Primal which was great - especially the views of the ocean. Enjoyed pizza beer and a band at the Boiler Room, lunch at beach plum farm and at Blue Pig. It was only 2 nights but felt like we really got away!

Read the fine print folks. This establishment took our $540 deposit readily. When we had to cancel over a week out due to illness - they would not honor the deposit in anyway. No partial refund, no gift card for future stay, no credit for a future stay. .We understood non-refundable - but this business practice is horrible. Never in 40 years of travel have I run into this. Buyer beware.
