Reviews for Glendeven Inn Mendocino

Wonderful views and location, tranquility and peace near Mendocino coast

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

This bed and breakfast and working farm is a wonderful magical space to rest, relax and regenerate…The view from the King Junior Suite on both the first and second floor are just gorgeous and as tranquil as they get…It is a lovely space for couples, or single people looking for silence, nature, and easy access to the Mendocino coast, Van Damme State Park, Fort Bragg and other beautiful areas. The ocean view from the room is in the distance and the llamas and chickens can be viewed in the foreground in the garden…Breakfast is delivered in a basket at either 8 or 9 am based on your preference. The food was healthy and not as tasty as one might expect from organic materials from their garden…Still it was very convenient to have it brought to the room… The dining room “Terra Farm” is only open for a few nights on the weekend, and the menu did not seem attractive, interesting, or a good value…A limited menu with very expensive options including medium pizzas for about $25 before tax and tips was not appealing, so we ate in Mendocino village or other nearby restaurants with great water view at the similar price points including Ledford House and Albion River Inn… There is coffee and tea (and sometimes cookies) available in the reception area…Upstairs has a little common area/cozy space to sit and read because there is no traditional lobby area…The gardens are beautiful and in good weather would be amazing to enjoy with the Adirondack chairs spread throughout and near the trails into the woods. I would definitely return when in the area.

Luxurious, Serene Coastal Get Away, Nestled in the Woods. Outstanding!

From the moment we stepped into the beautiful, beachy Mid-Century meets nature-inspired lobby area, and were greeted by the gracious and attentive front desk staff, my husband and I knew we were in for a rare treat. Our room, which featured a spacious living room area, with a well-stocked wood-burning fireplace, blew us away! The ultra comfortable king-sized bed (it somehow felt bigger than our King at home!), high quality linens and towels were a delight for the senses. I love that our windows looked out onto a peaceful woodland setting. Our bathroom was spacious with contemporary fixtures, excellent water pressure, and spa robes. A nutritious, lovingly prepared breakfast, with a tidy flask of coffee was delivered in a picnic basket to us with a gentle knock each morning- it tasted like no "hotel food" I've ever experienced: frittata with herbs and greens, rustic, authentic sourdough toast, seasonal fruit- all made with great care- made us so happy! We stayed two nights during a stormy weekend, where we went hiking, mushroom foraging, and sightseeing. Even exploring the grounds at SCP felt like a mini-adventure, they have Llamas (hi Larry, Curly, and Moe!) and an organic seasonal garden which our breakfast was sourced from. The recognition and kindness we received from each and every staff member we encountered made us feel welcome in a way I have never experienced at larger hotel chains. If we have one regret it's that we overbooked our weekend with activities and as such, didn't spend as much time in our room as we would have liked. We plan to book again this winter and just make a cozy, staying-in weekend of it by the fireplace. The overall feeling of this place gives: care, intention, warmth, and a sense peaceful retreat. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, a place to reunite with old friends, or even a team-building retreat, I highly recommend SCP Mendo Farm and Inn. It's close enough to the towns of Mendocino, Little River, and adjacent villages, all about a 5-10 minute drive from each other, that you can go take in the sites, and return to a peaceful, elevated atmosphere when you are ready to relax.

Be careful which room you choose - several are RIGHT next to the busy street

So first the positives - breakfast was delicious and the "delivered to your room" was a nice touch. Everyone from the staff was lovely (except the woman who checked us in - more on that later). BUT - here's the scoop - 2 of the buildings that house their rooms are RIGHT NEXT TO THE VERY BUSY ROAD, which wouldn't have been a big deal but I had called and asked for a quiet room and was told the Queen with Pullout Sofa was quiet - it is decidedly NOT. The cars whiz past the room 24/7 and it's loud. I've never been so glad to have earplugs. I should have known it was a problem when I checked in. I confirmed with the woman that we had a quiet room and she grimaced and said "I can't upgrade you because you reserved the room through a 3rd party" (we frequently book through Chase, but it has never impacted our upgrades or room changes before). She said something about vouchers and that it wasn't easy for them to move us. This was the end of January and the hotel was really empty. Why she couldn't change the room to something quieter is baffling to me. We definitely won't stay there again and unless they promise you a room far AWAY from the road, I can't recommend it. And whatever you do, don't book through a 3rd party for this place - apparently the front desk staff can't handle any kind of change if you do that (again, have never had this issue anywhere else). Super disappointing.

The most memorable experience!

By far, the most friendly staff we have EVER met. The location and the property were absolutely perfect! The rooms were AMAZING, and everyone from the front desk to the garden to the restaurant to the housekeeping truly made us feel like family. The fact that they bring a homecooked breakfast to your door every morning, let you roam the chicken coop, llama’s enclosure, and their garden tells you how “at home” you are going to feel. There is also a trail on the property that leads you to a breathtaking ocean view. We came to Mendocino on our honeymoon roadtrip for two nights, and we loved it so much that we booked a third night before we had to check out. We will absolutely be coming back to SCP Mendocino Inn and Farm without a doubt for our anniversary if we can even wait that long!

This place was just what I needed! It was my first time to Mendocino and I so happy to have found Glendeven. How great it was not to hear cell phones and TV noise. We enjoyed our walks to the coast and seeing the birds, rabbits and deer. I hope to be back many times in my life. What a treat it is for body, mind and soul.
