The game of golf as we know it was invented in Scotland, with documents first mentioning it in 1457. Though mostly viewed as an elite sport in many other countries, golf in Scotland is accessible to all with even the Musselburgh Links and Old Course at St Andrews – historical courses in use since the mid-1500s – available for use by the public.
