My second trip to Basel, Switzerland and first stay at the GRAND HOTEL LES TROIS ROIS. From the minute I walked in the door to my departure, the staff was extraordinary! Extreme incredible hospitality, gracious and welcoming. The room and all public areas were stunning! The food and service in the Brasserie was outstanding! Do yourself a favor and STAY at this remarkable hotel when in Basel, Switzerland!

The hotel services were top notch. Reservations went smoothly, check ion was phenomenal. Led us to our rooms, explaining the hotel, checking on us later to see if we needed anything else. Then we went to eat…..THe lobby bar with half the tables empty was a 20 minute wait. They had reservations we,were told. . The Manager, (Wearing a Jacket) stood looking over his kingdom. We asked if we could sit at the bar, (obviously the second spot if no tables) and they had to check. We sat down and upon getting our drinks, the hostess told us she had a table. We sat and sat. My bowl of soup came and just as we were ready to walk out, my salad came. This would have been a perfect couple of nights for us, except that we tried to walk in at 5:00 and again at 9:00 in the dining room and with multiple clean and set tables, they could not accommodate us. Again the Food and Beverage Manager with the dour look standing in the corner. The hotel was great, food service no way.

Good location. Helpful staff. Old world decor. Good views of the river from the rooms good breakfast. Attentive wait staff. Rooms were kept cleaned and a nice touch to have an unlimited mini bar of drinks. The tea room is also lovely. elements of the room could do with a bit of an update

When we travel, we always select an historic hotel with lots of local charm and history. This was the basis of our selection of this property for a two night stay prior to a river boat cruise. On that note, this hotel delivers. It's a beautiful property in the city center with gorgeous views of the Rhine. We selected a king balcony room with a view of the river. The flowers in the foyer are spectacular and we really enjoyed the evening that we ate at the Brasserie. So why 3 stars? We found that the staff seemed stuffy and not empowered to address guest issues. Our issue was with our room rate upon check-in. They claimed we booked for 1 person and not for 2, resulting in an additional 110 SF for a second person in the room per night. We thought we had it resolved only to discover we did not when checking out. The hotel also had an error in our credit card data, which would have made it impossible for us to book the room online, adding to my suspicion that the data error was theirs and not mine. Upon my objection and a call to 'corporate', they offered only a 30 SF reduction per night. I expected them to believe their guest and not insist on any additional charge, particularly since there was no breakfast or other actual expense (washing an extra towel?) to the hotel of a second person in a king room. The issue left me feeling the victim of a 'bait and switch' on the room rate --- which was in excess of 800 SF a night in any case. Had we known this would be their attitude, we would have chosen to have lunch and dinner at another location instead of giving them the additional business. Sadly, it started our holiday off on the wrong note and instead of remembering the beautiful property, our memory is of their inability to put guests first, particularly when it doesn't create any additional cost on their end. If this hotel wants to be 'young at heart', they're going to need to be less rigid and not make guests feel uncomfortable for pointing out an error in their booking information and then being insistent on charging them for it.
