A former mansion and farm, this magnificent Norman chateau of the eighteenth century, “La Chenevière”, finds its charm in the testimony of the times it went through. Constructed in an area dedicated to the cultivation of hemp in the eighteenth century, then a breeding farm for exceptional foals during the nineteenth century, the chateau was occupied by the Germans during World War II, and then the Americans after the D-Day landings. It was fully restored in 1988 to become the lush hotel-restaurant that it is today.

This place is amazing and rich with history. We had top notch service from bookings til we left the property. They helped us with our tours and the tour company they work with is outstanding. The grounds are unbeilevable with the trees and lush gardens. The rooms are a very nice size with updated bathrooms. The staff is very lovely and very helpful and welcoming. You will not regret this warm place tucked away from the world!!!

Room (not in main house) was dark, staff generally not friendly and garden restaurant food was marginal. Location was close (by car) to D-Day memorial sites. Would rather have stayed in Bayeux where we could walk to other restaurants, shops, etc. The Chateau was not up to 5-star standards per our experience.

a beautiful property with a very warm and welcoming staff. Beatrice was our host for breakfast. She started our days with a smile and delicious foods making us feel right at home. Tebow was our bartender in the evening feeling like an old friend. the room was very clean, very comfortable. Desk staff were great and patient with me as i tired my best at using my newly acquired French words and phrases.

Such an amazing experience. A beautifully cared for chateau with pool, tennis courts, bikes and two restaurants. The rooms are amazingly appointed and so comfortable! Staff were very helpful and kind. Elevator and air conditioning were an added plus. We can’t say enough good things about this hotel.

Lovely chateau with great grounds. We arrived early and our room was available, the staff at checking were very helpful. Our room was not in the main house which suited us fine. The bed was a good size, bathroom was a good size and the room was suitable for two nights. We did eat at the garden restaurant the food and service were first class. The hotel is about 2 km from the port which is a busy fishing harbour, worth a visit. We visited some of the D Day memorial sites which were very moving especially the Omaha beach and the Bayeux Commonwealth. Bayeaux which is nearby is a lovely town with some very interesting things to see. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to go back next year.
