Reviews for Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa

A gift that keeps on giving

Gratitude to the entire staff and team for the exceptional hospitality during “Santa Loves Champagne” Christmas Holiday. We celebrated the main event at Le Royal Raoux Gastronomique”, a special Michelin dinner! Jestin Vintage Extra Brut with captivating and complex notes. A season of truffles and caviar indulgence, fine wines and luxurious champagnes!

A quality but generic and isolated retreat/wellness hotel. Could be anywhere.

I will preface this review by saying we booked the hotel after American Express recommended it as a high service hotel near Reims. Unfortunately we were misled. This is a destination spa hotel best suited for couples with their own car who aren’t planning on drinking… in Champagne. It’s a destination hotel in the middle of nowhere. Perhaps this hotel was off its game as we arrived New Year’s Day, but I think it’s fair to say they struggled. The hotel is extremely impressive on driving in, but it’s a 70 euro taxi fare with few return options to Reims - you’ll need to keep the original taxi’s number if you want to have any really chance of getting back. Several of these transfers (to the champagne houses, to dinner etc) adds up and you are probably spending 200 euros a night more to be in the deep countryside. It’s a destination hotel far from the centres and certainly not suitable for those with international itineraries. The hotel is clean and quite new, with willing service and good responsiveness both in person and to email. We had to wait in the restaurant after a promised 12 noon check in was not possible “because it was New Year’s Day and we don’t know when current guests will leave” leaving us a compulsory lunch bill from the underwhelming second restaurant of the property, La Bellevue. Mains range from 45 odd euros to 85, taking advantage, in my view, of the isolation. Breakfast at the same restaurant was poor and requests for the offered a la carte options were rebuffed with a “find it on the buffet” from the servers, even when (for example the dairy free breakfast) was not on the buffet. Once checked in we went to the spa, a well fitted out, high ceilinged 25 m pool at a nice temperature and views of the countryside. Jacuzzis were quite open and not cozy at all. There was a sauna and steam room in side areas next to the change rooms. I did not see anyone using them. Massages and treatments were ski resort prices and we didn’t try them. On the first night we went elsewhere for dinner leaving the teenagers to get room service (my daughter ordered a plate of nothing but smoked salmon as she didn’t want the unhealthy pizza or burgers). They soon rang us very concerned as the wing of the hotel lost all power, including hot water. I guess an understandable risk in an isolated hotel and it was resolved by the next morning and an apology given, but the hot water wasn’t returned until the next evening and we elected to spend the next day unwashed. Unfortunately, despite several re-confirmations, and possibly due to our poor French and some poor English from the staff, the long transfer to Reims station was booked by the front desk at the time the train was due to leave, 45 minutes away in Reims. The mistake led to many hours on the phone, rebooking a Eurostar ticket twice and needing to get a private car all the way to Paris. The hotel is quality for what it is designed for - a destination, relaxing retreat for European couples on a driving holiday. The view of the snow on the Christmas trees outside the large breakfast room was very special and the main area of the spa (but not the thermal areas) is world class. I’d probably recommend it for a few days away from the bustle of London or Paris. But it’s not the place to come if you are visiting Champagne to experience what its most famous for - the Houses, the vineyards, the amazing history and the story behind one of the greatest branding successes of all time

Champagne dreams can come true…

After a long drive from the airport we found our reward. Royal Champagne Hotel and Spa. Wow, what a stunning place! Superb architecture, harmoniously nestled in its beautiful surrounding landscape. We were warmly welcomed from the very moment we parked in the entrance. At the reception Lise ushered us to a lovely sitting area where we sipped a little champagne during check in. You quickly get the sense of where you are. Our room was simply gorgeous, A chilled bottle of Leclerc-Briant was faithfully waiting for our arrival, very thoughtful. Every amenity you could think of was present, including a button on the phone that said: “Champagne Please” loved it. The bathroom was divine, and I definitely enjoyed the sumptuous bathtub. The spa was extravagant, meticulously designed, exuding a sense of well being and peacefulness. Absolutely stunning in every way. Best of all I’m a fan of both Clarins and My Blend, so I was happily surprised. I enjoyed a delicious massage followed by a swim in that glorious pool. Then off to get dressed for dinner. We enjoyed a beautifully prepared meal properly served. Merci! You can tell that every single person who works there has a true love for hospitality and they are delighted to make your stay most comfortable and memorable. Breakfast, by the way, was what you would expect, outstanding. We only stayed for one night, I would not hesitate to take more time to enjoy the champagne vibes at this exceptional property.

Beautiful stay in the heart of Champagne

What a beautiful property! My husband spent five days at this property with a small group. Our days were spent touring and tasting and each evening we returned exhausted but thrilled….and our stay here just iced the cake on a great trip. Rooms are beautifully appointed with stunning vineyard views. Be sure to take a short walk into the vineyard and if you have the energy - walk the 1.8 km to Hautvillers. (Or drive - or borrow a bike from the hotel). Breakfast is excellent - a buffet of everything you might want and if there is anything you do need a menu has more offerings. The bar is terrific and the drinks all good, too. We enjoyed the restaurant several nights but did not experience the Michelin starred one…our loss. We would absolutely return and have already recommended the hotel to friends.

Beautiful Hotel in a Beautiful Setting

Words will not do justice to the elegance, professionalism, decor, taste, and scenery of this hotel. Club this with reception staff, restaurant staff, spa & gym staff, and house keeping staff and you get the PERFECT combination. We have spent a couple of days with grandchildren in Disneyland hotel, and wanted to relax after the run around in Disney. This hotel was the choice of my daughter, and in my opinion was the right one 👍.
