The incredible hospitality and attention to detail made this a most memorable trip . It is refreshing to feel at home and enjoy the best of southern hospitality. The Peninsula grill restaurant on site is amazing and do not miss the coconut cake .

Lovely Accommodations with Few Flaws

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My husband and I occupied a readily accessible, spacious, quiet, and relatively inexpensive room in the Planters Inn Annex for several nights over the week of New Year's. The enormous walk-in shower was particularly attractive and pleasant, and the bed was exceedingly comfortable. By contrast, the very walls (!) of our room were dusty (such dust being especially visible when illuminated by lamplight after dark). Also, the bathroom light fixtures were dusty above a certain height, and the uppermost portion of the bathroom mirror needed a better cleaning. (I suppose the housekeeping staff is somewhat "vertically challenged.") Another matter worth mentioning is that the television offerings were severely limited and unappealing. Finally, the draperies did not hang straight because several curtain hooks had come loose from their moorings (which I personally stood on the leather desk chair to remedy). However, except as noted above, both the room and bathroom were immaculately clean, and the furnishings did not appear worn. Finally, everyone on staff with whom we interacted was a perfect dream: consistently eager, courteous, patient, and enormously helpful. We recommend the Planters Inn.

First time stay!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Our first stay. The room we stayed in was the nicest room we’ve stayed in Charleston in many years. Ben at the front desk took care of us when we booked. All the staff treated us like gold. We definitely are planning on coming back to Planters Inn! The dining at Peninsula Grill is over the top and is a bucket list. We’ve been coming here for over 20 years now and love the food. It was my birthday as well, and we were pleasantly surprised with Prosecco and a piece of coconut cake at our arrival. Again, the staff was fantastic!

If you want to really appreciate Charleston

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

A classic hotel experience in the Holy City, with excellent "customer service" in both the Inn as well as the associated restaurants. Waitstaff, bell staff, desk staff, and housekeeping all contributed to a really lovely, excellent stay. Especial thanks to Claire H for her concierge skills and patience in answering all our questions about walking around Charleston, as well as Cole and Tristan for making "coming-and'going" a smooth and easy process. Looking forward to our next visit. Thanks!

An Aging Grande Dame

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

In an excellent location and rich with history, the Planters’ Inn needs a major refurbishment. From the poorly draining sink to the sagging cushions on all the furniture, this property needs a major overhaul. Shabby chic only goes so far when it comes to hotel accommodation. The two highlights of our stay were the friendly valet staff and the woodburning fireplace in the lobby. Twelve years ago, we enjoyed staying here but a dozen years of use is a long time in the life of a hotel room. I do hope the investment is made to update this property and preserve its history and charm.

Our visit to the Planters Inn last week was superb, as always. Thanks, Steve Boyd, for taking such good care of us when we arrived so early in the morning. Thanks, too, to everyone at the inn for making us feel at home. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
