With echoes of billiard balls, poker chips, and clinking glasses frozen within its walls, this 1890’s Venetian Gothic landmark in the Chicago Loop springs back to life as an incomparable historic downtown Chicago hotel—where the spirit of play reigns supreme. After all, this is the city where the can-and-will-do attitude of Ernie “Let’s Play Two!” Banks lives on, where the father of Chicago blues, Muddy Waters, shook all night long at the Checkerboard Lounge, and Sir Duke tickled the ivories at The Blue Note. And this is the club whose historic members swam with five-time Olympic gold medalist Johnny Weissmuller—a.k.a. the original Hollywood Tarzan—and watched their fellow member Pudge Heffelfinger own so much end zone, he became football’s first pro. Today, Chicago Athletic Association is both a stunning hotel offering outstanding guest rooms and a historic monument to the big-shouldered, switch hitting spirit that defines our city with a downtown location in the Chicago Loop.

We've lived in Chicago our whole life and last weekend was our first time here. Lots of history and a really neat place. Will definitely be back! The one drawback is that the lobby can get crowded if The Game Room and The Milk Room are closed for private parties.

Hotel smells like sewage and they use perfume to hide the smell. Shower had no shower door and water leaks all over floor. The view was also terrible and we had to keep windows open due to smell but there was garbage collection happening which was very loud.

Great location and great service. We enjoyed the tour of the historic facility. The view from the rooftop restaurant was amazing. Lighting in bathroom was not up to par (typical for older hotels), my wife stated she should have brought a light for makeup, etc. We utilized the Shake Shack on location!

If you are looking for an old classic, this is your place. It is definitely old architecture and very charming, The standard rooms are small and a little dark, but they are also charming and very very clean. The beds are comfortable and the rain shower is huge. I stayed here for 2 nights and had a comfortable and inviting stay. The location is perfect. I would absolutely come back here again to stay in the future. The staff aimed to please and handled requests quickly and efficiently. If you are looking for modern luxuries, this is not for you. If you want old world classic charm, then look no further, this is your place. The breakfast at the Cherry Circle Room was delicious.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel. The building is old school Chicago with so much dark wood, beautiful touches, and charm. So many beautiful rooms, with a spectacular foyer/lobby with cozy couches, multiple fireplaces, and a bar! We had the King Founders room, and it's gorgeous. It's large, but it's charm is in all the old wood and tiled floors. The floor to ceiling windows are just beautiful in the room, too. Huge bathroom that's all old school tile, and I loved it. The room even has a little hallway entrance and foyer which adds that touch of privacy and elegance. The room is on the 3rd floor, so there is a little street noise (emergency vehicles are loud if they happen by) , but it is generally quiet and I'd easily choose that room again. The hotel is right in the heart of downtown Chicago on Michigan Ave across from Millennium park. Easy walking distance to so many shops, museums, and restaurants, though the hotel has some pretty nice bars and restaurants right there.
