Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

The hotel is architecturally beautiful, classically modern with excellent services. The courtyard is very inviting with a relaxing atmosphere in the middle of the bustling city.

Not only is this hotel beautiful, in that it is a 400+ year old monastery, but the service is second to none. Roger, one of several concierge managers, went above and beyond to ensure our trip was enjoyable.

What a wonderful property. The moment you step through the door you are in a sanctuary. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The food is top notch. A very comfortable and relaxing stay.

Concierge Roger made impossible possible. He worked so hard to obtain the tickets literally walking around.

Wow - most stunning property with 5 star service! This is a must stay for luxury in Cusco. Everything from the accommodations, property, food, drink & staff were just perfect. The staff went above and beyond to give us a personalized experience - from Leonardo at the entrance to our servers Mario and Wilberth and then Bryan with guest relations, this stay was perfect. Top hotel experience in a historic property!

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
