Important - The Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian has recently been renamed to The Caledonian Edinburgh, Curio Collection by Hilton. The Caledonian Edinburgh is currently undergoing renovation expected to be completed early 2025. The transformation of the hotel is already well underway and is taking place over a phased approach to ensure we can continue to operate as business as usual.
The Caledonian Edinburgh is one of Edinburgh's most significant and recognizable landmarks. Standing proudly at the west end of Princes Street, the heart of the capital, its reputation for style and excellence has attracted generations of locals, international visitors and notable personalities for over one hundred years. Built in 1903 and formerly part of the grand Caledonian Railway, the hotel is full of memories, including Peacock Alley which represents the historic heart, once the station concourse and ticket office. Surround yourself with heritage and over 100 years of hospitality, and become part of our story.

My partner and I stayed for a long weekend during which I proposed. The hotel team were excellent in helping me pull off the suprise and getting the room set up. Princess and the rest of the team were amazing for our entire stay. The breakfast was also really great. Would recommend The Caledonian to anyone looking for a high quality hotel in Edinburgh. Thanks for helping make our engagement special.

A beautiful hotel, loving the Curio revamp. the spa as usual - a great retreat on a cold winters day. Had a room on the 3rd floor last stay - modest in size, but cosy and impeccable. The interior and amenities were tasteful and thoughtful. From the chocolates to the exercise mat, to the TV and bathroom toiletries - top tier. We very much enjoyed the food. Originally was only going to have dinner there, but after experiencing the evening meal - I knew i would be having lunch there the following day. Compliments the the chefs. Smoked mash potato - never had that before, but was very moreish and complemented the meal wonderfully. Breakfast was very busy (it was peak time) but the team kept smiling and ensuring everyone was well looked after. My friend wished the crispy bacon was more crunchy/ crispy - but very minor issue as everything else surpassed expectations. Gratitude to all team members in Front Office for their warmth and professionalism. Eva, Emilie, Lukasz and Elena in the restaurant - thank you! You were delightful, personable and very helpful. Happy New Year. So sorry but I have met the gentleman serving in Caley Bar twice now and forgot his name - brilliant guy, certainly an asset to the hotel. Looking forward to our next stay and keep up the good work.

The location is perfect to the Edinburgh Castle and public transportation. It is also a great place to stay for walking around and visiting different areas of Edinburgh with all of the local shops. The rooms are spacious and the amenities are fantastic. Everyone working there was extremely nice and helpful. If I am ever in Edinburgh again, I will certainly stay here.

Though the location is prime and the common areas such as the lobby, bar and halls are aesthetically pleasing , that’s where it ends. Our room had a nice view of the castle (check) but the lighting or lack thereof was so bad we needed our phone lights just to get dressed. We reserved a King Premier room but did not get that even though they charged us for it. We complained about this , the lighting and the shower that has a hazardous drain that sticks out to where your toes get ripped not to mention the slippery, awkward shaped bathtub that felt more like a death trap to get in and out of or the electrical sockets that kept going out with 3 different types of mismatched sockets and nothing was ever done. They offered to bring us an extra lamp and the whole four days we kept asking , it never came . Then on our last day , we were told we needed to leave because our room was booked for that day even though we were booked through that night and that’s when my patience ran out. Not so much as a courtesy call to let us know they had us checking out that day on their system nor even a civil conversation to see it was clearly a mistake, just an unceremonious "GET OUT". We're the ones who called ahead to make sure someone would be available for our 3am checkout. They kept blaming our travel agency , but then they later admitted it was them without so much as offering an apology. The Caledonian’s service was just continuously so poor from asking for a luggage rack that never came to a leaking tea kettle to the gym being closed for two days straight. They even sent up a porter to physically remove us and that’s because we had tipped everyone so well. The managers never offered any solutions just complained along with us , stating they’ve received many complaints about the dark room for “YEARS” but corporate has done nothing to solve the issue. Also, every time we ordered room service, they never brought us a bottle opener for our coke bottles or always seemed to forget something such as utensils etc. I feel it's only fair to state that the cocktail lounge , Dean's restaurant and their restaurants were on point , food was delicious and everyone was lovely. However, we’ve traveled the world over and this is by far the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at - the absolute worst! Not because of the guests, room service nor concierge, but only due to the managers, front desk staff and poor room design and maintenance. It’s hard to believe Hilton owns this operation. There is zero regard for its guests. Our travel agency sent us a bottle of champagne for our troubles with a heartfelt apology where the hotel has yet to apologize for any of it. The Caledonian should have their staff stay at the Ritz for a weekend to learn about 5-Star service. The coup de gras was when they locked us out of our room when we returned for dinner after everything had been resolved and they had admitted their front desk clerk Nora was the one who mistakenly had us leaving that day. But wait, just when we thought it could not possibly get worse . . . it did. When we checked out at 3am, there were two girls at the front desk and neither so much as looked up to even acknowledge us or say good morning as if we had done something wrong for telling our travel agency about this fiasco. I, of course, said good morning and they begrudgingly obliged, but it was all so incredibly awkward. I don’t normally leave reviews like this, but I’d hate for anyone to have to go through the same awful experience we did. If you still choose to stay , steer clear of room 217 and double check to make sure your room matches what was descibed on their website.

Lovely public areas and extremely comfortable beds. Very disappointed with our room with screened out window hiding the view of the bin store. Breakfast was amazing but the cocktails are extremely overpriced. When the 5 inch brick of ice was removed from the glass there was about 2 inches of liquid in the glass. Have been before and the toiletries were amazing. They have changed to Arran toiletries and the smell was horrible. Don't think we ll be returning.
