This was our second December stay at this hotel. Eight nights is quite a bit of time to visit a city without any out of town excursions, but we were doing a halfway meet up and this hotel fit the bill to support our need to just relax and enjoy the ambiance during the holiday time period. The staff is very friendly and helpful especially the concierges. The beds are super comfortable, the rooms clean, and being able to control the climate yourself is always a plus for me in Europe. I would highly recommend the executive lounge package as the hearty breakfast will fortify you for all the walking in different elements of Scottish wintry weather and welcome you back at the end of short days with cocktail hour drinks and canapés. We loved Rose, a real gem, but really all the staff was great and helpful. Mulled wine and tasty mince pies were a nice holiday treat in the lobby. Try the haggis bonbons and sticky toffee pudding at One Square Bar. Be sure to book a spa treatment at the earlier part of your stay as appointments go quickly. The one slight negative is that there isn’t much sound proofing between the rooms and floors, but it never got in the way of our sleep, I just felt a bit uncomfortable using the hair dryer or television too late.

Visited Edinburgh for a birthday weekend as a couple. Very impressed with the hotel, good central location. Room was clean & comfortable. Loved the large TV & all the little complimentary extras in the room. Very quiet considering its city centre. We visited the pool once which was nice, it’s a shame it costs £70 extra to use the outside hydro pool/ jacuzzi. The only one (very small) thing was the shower in the room was not very powerful & took a long time for the hot water to come through. However this would not stop me staying here again if I came back to Edinburgh. Overall a lovely hotel!

Stayed here for two nights between Christmas and Hogmanay which was part of my Christmas present . Overall it was enjoyable stay, the location is very good, hotel was clean and the spa was brilliant. A negative that stopped this being 5* review - well my partner to make the present extra special had upgraded the room to a castle view. We were on the third floor, and yes you could see the castle but the view was spoiled but being directly over the bar roof and the sign spoiling an otherwise beautiful view. (See pictures) If you plan on paying the extra, make sure you are 4th floor and above.

An excellent experience over a two night stay. A quiet comfortable bedroom and enjoyable meal in the bar area, were then followed by an excellent breakfast in the restaurant. The only criticism concerned the bathroom. The water pressure was weak and the coloured lighting system a slightly irritating distraction. But overall, a most enjoyable stay. All the staff were welcoming and helpful.

Perfect hotel in the location I needed to attend a show at the Royal Lyceum. I splurged on a cab from the airport as my plane was delayed several hours and I didn’t want to miss the show. Taxis pick up and drop off at the rear of the property. I checked in with a cheery and efficient lady. I explained the situation to her and she raced me thru check-in and told me how to exit via the front of the building so I could access the theatre after I threw my bag in the room. She also took the time to offer me a reduced rate on breakfast which I gladly accepted. She certainly gave me the right directions as I could see the theatre lights from the doorway exiting the building. It was right across the street!! I was only 5 minutes late and was able to enjoy most of the show! On the way back there was a plethora of restaurants and pubs, lots of folk out enjoying Saturday night in Edinburgh. It is definitely a happening area. However, I was exhausted so I dropped into Nando’s for an easy take away. The bed was comfortable even though it was a twin (I had booked late and that was all that was left). The room was spic and span. There are only 2 issues, the lights are are at the edges of the space and provide more of romantic lighting than actual pack up lighting and the desk chair on wheels was rather skittish and rolled when I didn’t want it to. However there were two comfortable chairs for reading or looking at tv. The room was quiet and I had an excellent sleep. The bathroom set up was a bit funky with lots of glass but there was a door to make the commode area private. The products suppled are fairly good, they even have hair conditioner. There is an indoor pool which isn’t the largest but I managed a good 1/2 mile in laps. The pool has steps up to it, if you have mobility issues you should check with reception to see if it is feasible. I saw lots of guests in bathrobes heading off to the spa but I didn’t manage to try out their services. The breakfast was great and certainly worth what I paid. I loved the fruit salad from the buffet, it was fresh fruit and a great combination of tastes. I asked the nice server if the chef could do an egg white omelet and she asked him and got it done. The eggs were light and fluffy with mushroom, onion and yellow pepper, garnished with micro greens..
