exquisite hotel!

This is an amazing hotel. It sits up on a promintory built around massive boulders with 360 degree views of the valley and walking paths everywhere amongst the vineyards and gardens. The rooms are large and the beds to die for. We brought our dogs.Very pet friendly with each dog getting a personal dog bed. The restaurant and bar are spectacular. There were pools nestled here and there. We were blown away and will definitely be going back !

Beautiful, But At What Cost?

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My partner and I decided to visit this place for my birthday after I stumbled upon it on instagram. While I enjoyed my stay, there were a few mishaps that make me hesitant to recommend this place or want to return. A few things to know before and during: • This place is two hours south of San Diego. Getting a rental in the US may be a little pricey due to Enterprise and National banning rentals to enter the US. Plan and budget accordingly! • You do not drive around on this property. You get around by way of walking or calling a golf cart/buggy. Calling in advance may be the best option, especially before your dinner reservation. • The best way to contact the front is by WhatsApp. You can use the phone inside the room, but they seem more responsive via the app. • They will give you a calendar of activities they offer, but that does not mean you will be able to participate in them. Just because it’s displayed, doesn’t mean it’s available. You will have to coordinate as soon as possible by phone or app with the coordinator to see what you can do/what’s available. Do this your first day. Don’t wait until the day of thinking you’ll be able to do something, because you may not. • Speaking of coordinating, you have to make dinner reservations every night or you can in advance. The good: Banyan Tree Veya is a very gorgeous place. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. There’s an ideal amount of space between the villas, so you may never see your neighbor. The food was to die for. I was excited for every meal. The ambiance was amazing, very peaceful and serene. Big thanks to the sommelier we had, Diego, who offered a wonderful wine and tequila tasting. He was very knowledgeable and personable during his classes. Another thanks to one or the drivers, Luis. He was honestly the sweetest person we met there. The man at the front desk of the spa was also very nice, as well as the massage therapist (definitely book a massage with her!). The chef we had for the raw vegan class was a delight. And lastly, the yoga instructor who also led the botanical and tea class was fantastic. There were a couple of others whose names I can’t remember off cuff, but the staff was very pleasant and helpful. As of this date writing this review, this property isn’t even a year old so they are still working out the kinks and issues. I will give them grace there. However, some things were unfavorable, especially since they occurred on my birthday. The bad: • Disorganized and miscommunication. There were several times that different messages were given about class availability, birthday amenities or otherwise due to miscommunication among the staff. • Poor customer service. On our last night, we called many times to get a buggy to dinner and ended up walking up the hill. On our journey, two drivers passed us (with exception of the first, because his buggy was full) without asking if we didn’t a ride or help. The worst part of the poor customer service at the front desk is the lack of follow up. We received a double charge on our credit card of over 2,000USD from the property. We called to have the issue resolved and while they assured they would remedy this and call back, they did not. There was no follow up by phone, app, or email. Luckily, we resolved this issue with the bank, but that was the most disappointing aspect of their lack of service. I want to emphasize that may issue was and is not with the staff. They were wonderful and accommodating. My issue is with the front office. I would love to go back in the future, and would still make it a point to one day, but possibly later on once they’ve had more time to work out further issues.

A Resort without a pool, Needs a TON of improvement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We took our family for a Thanksgiving getaway down to the Banyan Tree in the wine valley in Mexico. This is CLEARLY a case where this is not to the level of a Banyan Tree Resort and they have a LOT of work to do. First, the pool. What higher end resort does not have a heated pool guests can swim in. Each villa had a hot tub, but the larger pool was there for swimming etc. In fact, they had a second smaller pool just in case. BOTH pools were not available in our time there although we were told several times they were fixed (cleaned and heated). Letting a 7-year old down really stinks. The Grounds have nice views although not quite there landscaping wise, but I saw several Dogs roaming and dropping feces around the grounds. The first night I ordered an Old Fashioned and the bartender made some watered down whiskey drink, it was horrible and his colleague had to show him how to make one. Really? The Food was okay, the menu never changed in the one restaurant they have. They claim their wine is amazing, I found it to be average at best. I would avoid this place for a few years and IF I am Banyan Tree management, I get in there and try to save my brand from being tarnished.

For the price, this was a deeply disappointing experience. It felt more like overpriced "glamping" than a luxury resort.

What we liked: The architecture and pool area were stunning. The outdoor daybed was a nice touch, and the views and sunsets were beautiful. What we didn’t like: The resort feels unprepared despite being open for nine months. Staff acknowledged ongoing issues but made little effort to address or compensate for them, worsening the experience. Key problems included: No hot water the first night and no heat in the room for our entire stay. A constant beeping noise in the bathroom ceiling that couldn’t be turned off. The plunge pool was cold and infested with flies. The area around the rooms smelled like septic, likely from grey water drainage. Privacy issues: My mother-in-law’s room had a sliding door that wouldn’t close. Limited transportation: Only three golf carts for the entire property. Wait times for rides were quoted as 10–15 minutes but often took an hour. Poor accessibility: Dirt roads and steep hills made walking between spaces difficult.
