Teasing sparkling sea views over Choeng Mon Beach, Kimpton Kitalay Samui channels the island’s tropical charm with 138 rooms, suites and villas. In this village-like island enclave, we invite you to embrace the spirit of a community inspired by the sea. Feel revitalized by five bold and inventive restaurants and bars, a spa influenced by Thai wellness with a welcomed modern twist, and our relaxing, palm-shaded pools. Explore the island on a fat-tire bicycle, and listen to island lore in the Lanai Coves. After all, Kita means ‘song’ in Thai, and lay is a reference to the seafaring Chao Lay people of Thailand. Together, Kitalay conveys the meaning of ‘the song of the Lay people’ – a tribute to the community spirit native to the milieu. It is this easy balance of nonchalance and detail that we call island living, the Kimpton Kitalay Samui way.

I stayed at Kimpton Kitalay for 5 days with my mum in March and the welcome from the staff was very warm. The whole complex is very well maintained and very well laid out - there are lots of gardeners out every day. We had a room with pool access and really enjoyed being able to go straight from our room to the pool without any restrictions - a real plus. Above all, we really liked the design of the hotel, everything looks elegant, cosy and new. Now to the catering. I would deduct one point because of the prices in the hotel and the behaviour of some guests. Yes, I know it's an upmarket hotel but the prices for cocktails and the BBQ on the beach were really exorbitant. The breakfast, on the other hand, was first class. The ordering service via app is a great idea. The quality of the food was always very high. I would also give half a minus point for reserving the sunbeds. Even though the hotel has signs with notices everywhere, guests started reserving the sunbeds early in the morning - a nogo. We also found it a bit inappropriate that some guests came to the buffet in sweaty clothes fresh after sport. I know the hotel can't do much about this, but it's not appropriate for a 5-star hotel. Finally, I would like to say something about the great employees. They were all very friendly and extremely helpful. They tried to help you in every way and everyone always had a smile on their face. The English of all the staff was excellent. It's really not a matter of course to have such a great team. However, I would particularly like to emphasise Moss and Naemi. Naemi really had an exceptionally strong demeanour, which was always accompanied by warmth and politeness. Her manner was simply extremely friendly and charming. We would particularly like to emphasise Moss for his helpfulness. I would like to give an example here: My mum had swollen legs due to the heat and Moos had ice cubes and a decongestant cream brought to our room in the middle of the night - not a matter of course. He also always helped us with tips for excursions and gave us great advice - he was always approachable, polite and very friendly. Many thanks to the great team for the wonderful time - it was definitely a very successful stay.

A Deeply Disappointing and Misleading Booking Experience – Avoid if Travelling as a Family We are incredibly disappointed with the deceptive and misleading booking process at the Kimpton Kitalay Samui, which has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a special family celebration. As a family of six, we had been meticulously planning a dream holiday to Koh Samui in July 2025, with the Kimpton as the highlight of our trip. After extensive research and reading countless glowing reviews, we decided to push our budget to make this stay possible – booking two rooms via Booking.com to accommodate our family (1 adult and 2 children per room, as there was no option for one room to sleep all of us). The booking was made in good faith, clearly specifying the number of guests (2 adults, 4 children), and we paid the quoted price in full. Only after payment was taken did we receive a message from the hotel stating that if we wanted our children to sleep in their own beds – a completely reasonable expectation – we would need to pay an additional 6000 THB (£140) per night for two foldaway beds. That’s an outrageous and unexpected £560 extra for our four-night stay, sprung on us after the fact. We have since contacted the hotel three times and have been promised call backs that never materialise. Booking.com, while polite and sympathetic, have also tried to engage with the hotel, only to be told it’s “company policy.” If this is your policy, then be transparent about it before taking our money. To be clear: we have no issue paying for extra beds if it’s clearly communicated upfront. What we object to is the bait-and-switch tactic – confirming a booking, taking full payment, and then adding charges for the most basic requirements (i.e. separate beds for children) afterwards. It feels like we’re being held to ransom – pay up or expect two children and one adult to squeeze into a double bed. This has soured what was meant to be a joyful family experience and has left us frustrated and feeling taken advantage of. For a hotel that claims to offer luxury and family-friendly service, this experience has been anything but. We sincerely hope the hotel reconsiders its communication and booking practices to ensure future guests are treated with more honesty and respect. booking ref: 4869.987.349

The best features of this hotel is its secluded location, which is in a quiet part of Koh Samui, not far from the airport. It also has a long stretch of beach with a beautiful sunrise view. We stayed in a Beachfront Villa, which not only provided quick access to the beach but also came with a private pool that was fairly large—perfect for families with children. Other things we liked included the daily happy hour and the spa, which offered excellent service. As for areas that could be improved, the kids' club is rather small with limited activities, and the breakfast selection could be more varied.

We had a great time at Kimpton's. The food was excellent, the conditions were luxurious, and the service was the best we have ever received. We have been to many hotels around the world, but we have not received service like this. A lovely employee named Moss took care of everything we needed and more with professionalism, and made us feel cared for. We will definitely come back
