We stayed in Kyoto for 3 nights with our family of 5, kids ages 16, 14, 10. We booked a corner room and 5th floor balcony room. Prior to the stay, I communicated with the hotel requesting rooms near each other and a rollaway for the balcony room. All requests were accommodated with no problems. We enjoyed the Geisha show in the lobby - a nice surprise treat with a happy hour. We ordered taxis multiple times and the bell desk was incredibly helpful getting 1 van taxi for our family of 5 instead of paying for 2 taxis. The rooms were clean and quiet. It’s a very busy hotel with families and business travelers but we were always greeted with a smile and the staff was always ready to help with requests. Another note - we got some laundry done by the hotel one day. Given to housekeeping in the morning and returned by the time we got back to the room. Very helpful!

The stay at Hyatt Regency Kyoto is so great and we definitely will come back again. This is our first family trip to Kyoto (me and my two kids). When we arrived around 3pm, we waited just a bit and check out process is really smooth and let us to our room pretty early. The assist manager Dennis is the best we had in our trip this time. We stayed at four different hotels (Conrad Osaka, Hyatt Regency Kyoto, Shisu Nara, InterContinental Osaka), his service is the best in all of them. especially i only have Discoverist , all other hotel chain i have Diamond/Platinum level above. Dennis is super attentive and welcome us after our checking and guide us to our room. He also arrange a hand-written note to us (with Gundam icon, my son loves that!), and welcome sake , which is a pity i don't get to drink it... (too much good food and drink...) all staff at hotel is super nice and we definitely will come back again. the neighborhood is quiet and friendly. Temple next door and Kyoto National Art Museum across the street. if you walk, it's 10-15 walk to famous Kiyomizu-dera. Kyoto station area is nice and has lots stores/eatery to offer, but i personally like this location and hotel.

The best part was complimentary taxi from and to the Shinkansen station! The staff emailed directions before our arrival. The front door staff did a great job of getting us cabs and directions for our two days of sightseeing. We had garden overlooking rooms. Regretfully, at this price point, we expected more from the room and the hotel. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant and were pleased with the service and the food. Next night we made reservations at the Touzan but the menu was extremely limited so we went back to the Tratorria Sette. No regrets as the staff and the food were wonderful! A beautiful geisha came around for us to take photographs with. Excellent touch! Breakfast was at Cafe 33 both mornings. The staff did a great job, and it was a pleasure meeting the chefs in the open kitchen. Overall: rooms could be nicer, but the location and staff are great.

I have no idea how they get away rating this a 5-star hotel. Sure, the lobby and entrance are nice, but the rooms are TINY. It felt way closer to a Motel 6 than a 5-star resort. The staff was nice and professional, but I was blown away at how tiny the rooms were. We actually decided to leave because of this and move to the Four Seasons, which was amazing, albeit way more expensive. They still made us pay for one night even though we didn't stay there, which to me was silly. We walked into the room, took one look at it and turned around and left. VERY misleading photos on the website! I really wish I had taken photos of the room for this review. That way people can see what the rooms really look like. Tiny bathrooms as well. The bathroom was no different than any 3-star hotel I've ever stayed in.

The rooms and hallways could use some updating. The restaurants were delicious, we ate at Cafe 33 and their Italian restaurant. The staff were top notch, they deserve accolades! There was a free Maiko show which was a fun experience and I like how it is right next to a Temple, we checked it out as soon as it opened and had it all to ourselves for about an hour!
