A contemporary haven nestled in a historical landmark in the center of the capital of gastronomy, InterContinental® Lyon – Hotel Dieu is one of the city’s most emblematic historical landmark buildings, originally dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries and offering contemporary and understated luxury design. Views from the hotel are always stunning, be it on the Rhône river or on our listed historic courtyards. Located on the 1st floor, the hotel’s breath-taking Soufflot Dome, towering 32 metres high, has been one of the greatest private renovations of a classified site in France since 2013. The majestic Dome is the vibrant heart of the hotel, boasting a magnificent bar. Le Dôme bar is one of the highlights of the city for hotel guests and locals alike.

Beautifully refurbished building. The dome bar is spectacular. Rooms are nice and comes with good amenities. Avoid the Epona restaurant. It’s overpriced, nothing special and offers poor service. The appetizer took 45 minutes to arrive and since my wife only ordered the main, she waited 90 minutes to get her tasteless plate. Our waiter did not speak English. For an international hotel, we were surprised. There are plenty of better restaurants just a few steps away.

Cons: rooms facing the back can hear the bar/music/loud voices until the early hours, room felt a little budget, service in the bar was really slow, no pool, tiny gym and 15 year old machines?, no shower, rooms felt designed on a budget. Pros: kind staff, location, beautiful building

Truly a stunning property. The building and interior spaces are unique and beautiful. Property was gorgeously decorated for the holidays and the attentive staff was helpful and always available. The history of this space is not lost in the details. Kudos to the Concierge whom I missed having a chance to thank in person. The team was responsive and helpful — one of the better teams I have worked with in France. The only drawbacks were: (1) the WiFi is terrible. No consistent signal despite being on two of their networks. I could not get any work done in my room, They need to install signal extenders or hubs in some of the rooms that are further away. (2) Signage is confusing. Being that there are many courtyards since this was once a hospital, getting around was at times difficult, but an adventure, especially when the back door closed while we were out at dinner! (3) The affiliated spa is bizarre. It’s not really a part of the hotel, though you can run your room charges back to your folio. The hydrotherapy space was tiny/limited but the worst thing were the terrible “Oriental Massages” we received. I have had well over 300 massage therapies in my life thus far and this was easily one of the 3 worst, I don’t know what it was about the service, but it was disjointed, not relaxing and the therapist only had two modes — painful elbow poking or barely touching fingertips. Truly the strangest and least pleasant spa experience I’ve had in a decade. And not just for me but for my sister as well, who had a different massage therapist. Stay away from the Conq Monde spa here. I stayed at two IHG properties to bookend my recent river cruise and this one blew the other out of the water all around. I would stay here again (as long as I was put into a room with reliable WiFi) which is saying a lot given that I visit many higher end properties around the world.

I had a lovely four night stay at the IC Lyon last month, just before Christmas. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms clean and well-appointed. As an IHG Diamond, I was upgraded to a larger room than I had booked - it said courtyard view but it was really a rooftop view but I didn't mind. The only meal I had was breakfast daily and it was pretty much the same every day but with plenty of variety and choice and high quality. Special thanks to Nathan who remembered my English Breakfast tea order. :-) The location is advantageous, easily walkable to old town, the Paul Bocuse food hall and many restaurants and shops. I would not hesitate to return here or recommend it to other travelers.

We had a very nice stay at the Intercontinental Hotel Lyon. We stayed in a duplex junior suite. Regarding the good points, you get a very nice view of the river and there is definitely a glam factor to this junior suite with the high ceilings and separate loft living area. You really did feel on top of the world looking out over the city from these massive windows. I do have mixed thoughts on the room. It does offer a little more privacy with two semi- distinct spaces. However, in a way it was not very practical if you are staying multiple days because we were constantly running up and down the stairs because the closet, unpacking space is a little small. We would probably rethink staying in this type of room again. Also, our room clearly showed some signs of wear especially on the floors but not in any way to affect our enjoyment of the space. The service is impeccable from all perspectives with a willingness to help and a patience to speak to me in my horrible French even though they are trained to deal with international clients. We visited the Dome Bar two times. It is a pretty space. We were largely using hotel credit, but it seems to be a place in high demand because we often saw a line during the apertivo time. Breakfast was good and included a wide range of choices including some Asian options. The location was perfect for access to so many things ranging from sightseeing activities to shopping. There is no doubt. We would stay in this hotel again from a service and location perspective.
