Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel

Carton House transports you back to a different time. Much of the current hotel retains historic features but there are also plenty of modern luxuries. Dinner in Kathleen's Kitchen is a great experience as it was once the servants kitchen and has many original pieces like the old stoves and cookware. The swimming pool felt dark (and not in a relaxing way) and could do with some attention. Though it was clean there is a need for a water fountain and slip resistant tiles. The bedroom was fantastic, nothing to add but would have welcomed some complimentary snacks/turn down. Service at mealtimes was lacking, food was of top quality but attention to detail in service lacking (not clearing table, slow service). Overall a great experience, would stay here again just for the atmosphere and incredible grounds (2 golf courses and endless walks).

The worst hotel experience we have ever had! No toilet roll provided, coffee machine in room was broken, 5/5 steaks in the Restaurant were tough, room service pizzas look like they came out of a freezer, 3/4 spa treatments at €160 were terrible, treatment rooms were cold, my mother fell coming out of spa area due to a lip in the carpet. The hotel tried to change the rate of our room over the weekend, even though we paid in full, to which we were then kept in limbo over the course of 4 days, we rang every day to resolve the issue but kept getting told there was no general manager in to decide what to do. Will never be back to this dump.

I can only comment on the grounds of this estate as I went there purely to walk and talk with family. There are very long walks, but no place to sit and enjoy the views. No simple directions to help make your way around the vast grounds of this estate. The sinage that was there was scarce and only directing you back to the house and outhouses that are poorly marked once you reach them. I know now why I never visited this estate before having lived in the area for many years. It is not inviting in any way and to stop and have tea and coffee atca reasonable price is definitely a no no. I can see why its so expansive as the bar/cafeteria is overly staffed and yet short of one to one seating. I would not be in any hurry to return to Carton house in the future as in my estimation, it lack character and homeliness for such an opulent hotel.

What a wonderful hotel. Not sure how to express just how good it was. We stayed in the Manor House the room was amazing. All staff were wonderful from check in to check out. My car was so close but the lovely valet guy would not let me bring our cases to the car insisted on doing it for me what a gentleman a true lovely Dublin man!! The grounds are fabulous as is the food. Just an aside if you need your hair done you can book online for OB1 the best salon I have been in for a long time. We will definitely be back just love this place and being so close to my home county of Meath was wonderful.

The property is beautiful and extremely well furnished and updated. The staff are very nice; I was late for laundry but they took it. They held up the tour for us by 15 minutes. The highlight was the Head Concierge who gave us the historical tour of the property which was fantastic. However, the service is slow and somewhat confused. The laundry was pressed well or as directed. We were supposed to get the breakfast in the palatial room adjacent to Morrison restaurant which we were told was closed, but then it was opened because we were misinformed. On the second day it was closed. Our room in the manor wing was freezing and way too sparsely furnished. The very necessary extra heater in the room was not working. At midnight on the first night we asked for an extra heater and duvet which took at least 30 -40 minutes to get because they had to get from the other wing. All in all a good stay but needs to be more efficient.
