The Taj Mahal Palace

This hotel has much to recommend it, but beware at check-in. They ask for your credit card and place the usual hold of about $100 on it to cover incidentals--except it is not a hold. They process the charge immediately, as they did for me on January 4, and never adjust it to refect actual expenses. In my case, I spent about USD 15 over three days and despite repeated emails requesting a credit, three weeks later I still have the initial $91 charge on my credit card and I owe that amount on my latest statement. I spend about 100 nghts a year in hotels all over the world and nowhere have I ever experienced this kind of dishonesty, let alone from a famous luxury establishment. Beware!

Anticipation for the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025 had been building since August 2024, when I secured my accommodation at the Taj Mahal Towers. A delightful surprise awaited upon check-in on January 17th: an unexpected upgrade to the legendary Taj Mahal Palace. Escorted to the Palace wing, I was invited to savor a leisurely lunch at the picturesque Aquarius by the pool. Upon completing my meal, I was ushered to an opulent suite – a revelation of spacious grandeur. The suite boasted a separate dining room, a cozy living area, an expansive bedroom, and a truly remarkable bathroom featuring a magnificent freestanding bathtub. The ensuing two days were a symphony of indulgence. Mornings began with a sumptuous breakfast at the Sea Lounge, offering breathtaking views of the Gateway of India. Lunch at the renowned Shamiana was a culinary masterpiece. A guided tour through the heritage property proved to be an enriching experience, unveiling the fascinating history of both the Taj Mahal Palace and Towers, culminating at the poignant memorial dedicated to the victims of the 2008 terror attack, including the brave Lucy, the hotel's beloved canine hero. My stay at the Taj Mahal Palace was an unforgettable experience. Every moment was a testament to the hotel's legendary service and timeless elegance. I eagerly anticipate returning with my family to create cherished memories together.

Historic and beautiful hotel. Staff is world class. Will only stay at Taj properties while living in India. This is the fourth Taj we have enjoyed. All of them have been amazing. The history behind this hotel and the Tata family is amazing. Truly a service oriented family.

The accommodation was great, the service and cleanliness were above excellent. Everyone was friendly and smiling. The service at the hotel gives you the feeling as you are a royal family. I will definitely book Taj Mahal Palace hotel whenever I visit Mumbai.

Outstanding service by a well-informed team who pay attention to every detail of your experience. Nothing is too much trouble. We invested in staying at the Taj Palace as this was first time in India and we wanted to arrive at the historic gateway and use its tranquility to process the transformation from western sensibilities to life as it's actually lived by everyone else! We're glad that we did. Mumbai's mad, visceral infrastructure takes some getting used to for a newbie. We went onwards into south India's interior to accomplish a number of high altitude treks where we embraced every type of lived experience. Starting with the Taj enabled us to gather out thoughts after a long journey and mentally prepare to get the most out of these. After many outstanding personal experiences during those treks, homestays and local interactions, staying at the Taj remained among the highlights.
